Tomorrow is the BIG day
Tomorrow I go in for my surgery and I am really kinda ambivalent. I don't know whether to be scared, anxious or happy. The thing I am most concerned about is the catheter. I have never had one before and I really don't want one, but my lovely dr. says I need one.
I am also really looking forward to when I can eat again. I am really hungry at this point. I was feeding my dog her gravy train and I never would have thought I looked tasty before, but it sure did now. I never thought I would be so hungry that dog food would look appetizing!!! I just keep in my mind that my 2-4 weeks or so of denying myself the food I want is nothing compared to those poor people over where the tsunami hit where they will be going without for much longer.
I also want to thank all of you who have already sent me well wishes...I just wished I had found this place sooner. We all are a bunch of "losers" who are truly winners!!
Melissa,
I am one week post op. I, too, feared the catheter. Couldn't imagine how it would feel "Up there". Good news. I didn't feel it at all. I was too hurting everywhere else.
Seriously, It was inserted after I was asleep, and painless while in.
I felt for the tube once the first day outta curiosity, but I could barely reach down there. The day they took it out, was prepared for it to hurt, but it just felt like a weird tampon coming out of a different place. Females are fortunate. The entire inserted part of the catheter is very short; about 3 inches long. The rest is the tube and the bag(which I never saw.)
I am the world's biggest coward for pain. I still cry at shots. But the catheter was NO BIG DEAL.
Dog food, huh? Our's eats dry food. But my daughters baby food looked heavenly.
Good luck tomorrow and don't sweat the little stuff. BTW, it's all small stuff.

HI MELISSA, CONGRATS ON YOUR BIG DAY!!! THE CATHETER IS NO BIG DEAL FOR THE MOST PART YOU WON'T EVEN REALIZE THAT IT IS THERE. PLUS THEY WILL MOST LIKELY PUT IT IN WHEN YOU ARE UNDER ANYWAY SO YOU WON'T REALIZE THAT IT HAS BEEN PLACED, AND JUST THINK IT'S ONLY FOR A DAY OR TWO TOPS AND IT BEATS PEE-ING ALL OVER YOURSELF IN BED. LOL I AM SURE THAT IF YOU ARE LIKE ME ... YOU ARE UP AND ALL OVER THIS SITE WITH PRENIGHT JITTERS. AS FAR AS WEATHER YOU SHOULD BE SCARED, ANXIOUS, OR HAPPY ... HECK GIRL, BE ALL!! BUT MOST OF ALL BE EXCITED IN YOUR DECISION AND OWN ALL THAT COMES WITH IT. I AM A BIG BABY FOR PAIN AND IT REALLY WASN'T THAT BAD AT ALL AND CERTAINLY LESS THAN I EXPECTED. PLEASE DON'T FORGET TO WALK AND TAKE LITTLE BABY TIM CONWAY STEPS AND LAPS AROUND THE NURSES STATION. YOU WILL HEAL OH SO MUCH FASTER AND BETTER. AS FAR AS BEING HUNGRY... YOU WON'T BE WHEN YOU WAKE UP AND THAT IS AN AWESOME PERK. HOWEVER, YOU WILL PROBABLY BE THIRSTY. PLEASE ADOPT THE ATTITUDE THAT THE LIFESTYLE OF FOOD CHOICES THAT WE MADE BEFORE OUR SURGERY DID NOT WORK FOR US AND THEY CERTAINLY WON'T WORK FOR US AFTER AND PLEASE DON'T PRE MOURN THE FOODS YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO HAVE AFTER AS YOU WILL BE SURPRISED AT HOW MANY DIFFERENT VARIETIES OF FOOD WE CAN AND HOW WE REALLY DON'T MISS OR CRAVE THE ONES THAT WE SHOULDN'T HAVE. SO DON'T MOURN IN WHAT YOU CAN'T HAVE BUT REJOICE IN WHAT YOU CAN HAVE, CAN DO AND WILL BE !!! IT HAS BEEN A YEAR AND 3 MONTHS FOR ME AND I AM NOT MOURNING A THING!!! HOORAY!!! I HAVE GONE FROM A SIZE 26/28 TO A SIZE 12/14 AND I ACTUALLY REACHED THAT SIZE IN JUNE AND HAVE MAINTAINED IT AND HAVE SO FAR HAD A TOTAL WEIGHT LOSS OF ABOUT 132 LBS. WELL GOOD LUCK AND GOD BLESS!! MY PRAYERS WILL BE WITH YOU FOR THE GOD'S GUIDANCE WITH YOUR SURGEON'S HANDS AND SURROUNDING STAFF AND FOR YOU AND YOUR RECOVERY. ALSO IT IS TOTALLY NORMAL TO GET THE PRE JITTERS AND DRY HEAVES ON YOUR WAY TO THE HOSPITAL. YOU WILL LAUGH AT THAT LATER. AND IF NO ONE SAID ANYTHING TO YOU... IF YOU STILL HAVE YOUR PERIODS ... REGARDLESS OF YOUR CYCLE IT IS TOTALLY NORMAL TO START JUST AFTER SURGERY DATE. IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS OR EVER NEED TO CHAT FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME. PLEASE KEEP ME POSTED!! ANGIE
