Sensitivity to smells after anathesia: Anyone else?

I woke up in the hospital with an unusual side effect. I had incredible sense of smell. I smelled the food at lunch time coming up in the elevators on the other end of the building! I smelled smoke on a nurse's clothes...from 5 feet away!! I couldn't stand the smell of perfume and had to rip out all the air fresheners and candles in the house when I came home. Even my beloved eucalyptus wreath over the fireplace made me wanna puke. The only thing that helped was fresh air from outside. Fortunately, I am in the tropical part of Texas so the weather outside is Spring-like and pleasant. Has anyone else had this phenomenon happen to them? Lou Ann

OMG, I thought I was the only GIFTED one. LOL The smell of the hand sanitizer the nurses used just sent me for a ride. The smell of the carnation instant bkfst they kept bringing me was the worst, and on and on. What is up with this??? Rhonda

I had the same problem, but it has subsided a lot this week. I'm post-op into my third week. Hopefully it will get better for you too.
