HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Irene,
I had my surgery on 1-12 and experienced the same thing. I took alot of vitamin C, stayed away from everyone who was sick, and washed my hands alot. I had no cold or flu syptoms when I went into surgery. Now in my recouperation I am experiencing a sore throat. I don't know if it is from the tube down my throat or a cold finally coming. Think positive, good luck and be prepared for much gas. No one told be about that.
I had a sore throat a couple weeks ago and the second day I knew I had a cold and a very bad one. I went to see my PCP and he gave me something called "Z-Pac" Within 24 hours I could hardly tell that I had a cold at all. Ever since I have stayed in the house at night and have made a point not to do anything that would even have a chance of me getting sick again. (My date is 1-20-05).
If your sore throat does not go away, call your doctor!
I've been worried about the same thing.
The previous posters were right.
First, take vitamin c, get plenty of fluids, and take extra zinc. It also boosts your immune system. (I think it's the key ingredient in the Z-Pack), and medications like ZICAM. ZICAM works for a cold.
If your throat continues to hurt, gargle with sal****er (always works for me), and then call your doctor. Make sure there's nothing else going on.
Good luck! I'm paranoid about getting sick now, too. Been subbing at the Elementary School--not a good idea right now! LOL

HI Irene,
I work in Health Care and was at VERY high risk due to everyone around me being sick the weeks before my surgery. I did have a cold about 2 weeks preop but with fluids & rest beat it. After the cold I kept doing the fluids and rest thing, but I also continued a regime of heavy vitamin C (you can take up to 10,000 mg a day if you ARE sick) but I only took around 2000 mg a day, zinc (make sure you have food in your stomach), and Echinacea. Also lot's of water and OJ. I washed my hands after everytime I touched something and if I couldn't wash I used hand sanitizer. I never touched my mouth and ate away from everyone in a to go container so nothing would get on my food. I hope this helps & good luck on your surgery! - Marie
I too take Echinachia but my surgeon ordered me off of it before surgery b/c he was afraid of the blood thinner qualities that most herbs carry so make sure you get it OKed with your surgeon (each one is different) and do your own research! If I had time I would have fought the not taking echinachia thing....LOL! Good luck on your surgery!
Brightest Blessings for a Wonderful Day~
