Surgery 1-24-05- Anyone worry about blood clots?
8 days till surgery for me. I'm having VBG in Houston, Texas by Dr. Beryl Harberg. My biggest fear is blood clots. Does anyone know if this is a big problem? For the last 8-9 yrs, my platelets have been on the high side, in the 500,000's. Have been to 3 different Hematologists and they all say there's really nothing wrong, they would be more concerned if they were too low and if I wanted I could take a baby aspirin a day, but I was more at risk for clots. Since they have been high, I have had my gallbladder removed and a DNC without any problems. I just wonder if this type of surgery is more likely to produce clots? And, when are you out of the woods for them? Is it a few days post op or a few months, etc? Anyone else have this problem or concern before/after surgery? And, if you have a clot, how will you know?
Thanks!
Hi Lia,
It isn't a huge problem but it is always a concern with surgery. They will probably give you heprin shots after the surgery to keep your body from getting clots. I know they did with me Don't obsess about it or everything will make you think your getting one. I promise you;ll be fine and the risk is highest right after surgery. As long as you walk after surgery you should be okay it keeps the blood flowing. Good luck!!!
