I'm New and I Have A Date
Hi everyone. My surgery date is Jan 25. I have heard that if you go on a liquid diet a couple of weeks before the surgery this will shrink your liver and decrease the possibility of having to have an open operation. I really would prefer lap. surgery (who wouldn't). So I have 6 days until I start my protein shake diet to prepare for the surgery. My doctor wants me below 300 as well so I have to lose 22 lbs in 3 weeks. Is this possible? Probably not. But I'm gonna try. I am very worried about almost every aspect of this surgery. Im nervous about the pain. I'm nervous about the recovery and infections and complications. And I'm extremely nervous about changing my eating habits after the surgery. I'm 26 years old and I was also told that because I am young, my skin should not be as saggy as an older person's would be. However, I'm sure I will need a tummy tuck as well. I'm nervous about that too. I drive a school bus and I spend all my time driving day dreaming about the surgery. This is not good. Anyone out there who has had the surgery..can you help me out? Tell me how bad it really is and what I can expect? Many questions. And I feel the doctor can't really answer since he's never had the surgery. I want to know about the feelings.
-glad there is a group out here to talk to
Hi Andrea,
I'm due to have surgery on the 13th. I'm worried that you have set yourself up... that is a lot of weight to lose. I have been on the protien shakes but that is mainly to increase my stability. You are young.. and you will be suprised at how well you do!!! I understand that this is scary. We are all scared... and excited at the same time. The best way to make sure that you can stick to the post op life style changes is to keep your support base wide. Don't try to do this alone. Yes you will have some pain.. but it will only be for a few days and then you will start to feel much better. Pre op.. exercise each day... even if it's short ten minute walks. Do that.. and take vitamins... and increase your protein so that you heal faster after surgery. I will keep you in my prayers You always have someone to talk to here. This is a great support group.
If there is anything that I can do to help in any way.. just let me know!
six more days and counting for me
Julia
Andrea,
This message board is for people waiting for surgery like you are. For questions about post op and adjusting to the lifestyle after surgery you might want to post your questions on your state message board. On that board there are people who are at every stage of their wls journey.
I think Julia gave you very good advice. You can do the protein shake diet, but don't get unrealistic expectations.
Blessings,
Carolyn
