Topic: Happy One Year Anniversery To Me!!!
I can not believe it! One year ago today...I weighed over 400 pounds! What a year this has been. As I reflect back, I can not help but start to get a little choked up because of what a blessed person I am to have made so many wonderful new friends. This year...has certainly had it ups and downs, just like any year. I am so pround of ME!!! I had a personal goal of having 200 pounds gone by this day...I missed it by 14 pounds! Oh well...that 14 pounds will be gone before I know it...and then I wil set a new goal. Thank you to everyone who has posted or emailed me during this past year. You all have truely been angels to me...each of you! I am also thankful that I have had the oppertunity to become an inspiration to others. I have always felt that we are put on this earth for more than to just take up space...and this year has been the most rewarding for me, because I have been a positive influance to family members and even total strangers. There is no better feeling than to have someone you have never met before email you and tell you a story about how they would have never had WLS if they had not read your profile. That has been the best WLS moment for me YET!! I look forward to this next year...by this time next year I WILL BE AT GOAL!!!! Love and Hugs to all! Kristal Vaiani "Purple Diva" 420/234/150

Topic: Today is my first ReBirthday!
Wow ... I can't believe that it is a whole year since my Open RNY. About this time last year, I was being wheeled to the recovery room. I started at 331 and am down to 228. While I am 70 lbs from my goal, there are so many positives in my life now. Yes, it is hard not to get depressed as the weightloss grinds to a halt, but then I realize that my back has gone out only twice in the last year and I can actually walk a mile now. My knee still needs to be replaced, but at least I can function on it now. Thank you all for being there. It is a wonderful feeling to know that there is support for both the good and the bad. Topic: SLEEP APNEA---Mine didn't go away!!! (Grrrrr.)
Now that I'm a year post-op and have lost over 100 pounds I decided to get re-tested for sleep apnea. Although I'm having fewer apnea episodes, I still stop breathing for longer than 1 minute and my oxygen level is below 80. They actually had to increase the pressure on my CPAP machine from 12 to 13. I'm wondering how other sleep apnea folks are doing a year post-op. I honestly don't mind using the CPAP when I'm home but it's a hassle when I travel. I've had trouble finding electrical outlets while camping and the battery system I bought failed at a critical time. I have also had trouble at airports being able to carry my CPAP on the plane. I was also traveling with a valuable and fragile musical instrument and they said I had too many carry-on bags.
