Hi Connie, I understand where you are coming from because I am in the same place. At the rate I am losing I will still be over 200 lbs at 18 months. It's hard to believe you have your insides rearranged to still be obese at the end of the journey. If I weren't following the surgeons program exactly then I could blame myself, but since I am I have to accept that my body is determined to stay fat. My surgery date was 1/20/04 and I've lost 75 lbs. Isn't it great though when you think of all the things you can do easily today that you couldn't do several months ago? I have a girlfriend who is wanting to also have gastric bypass done but she had been getting different responses from the surgeon vs. her medical doctor. Her thyroid is so bad it basically doesn't even work anymore. She is on medication (for about 8 years now) and it hasn't helped her at all. Her medical doctor wants to keep trying different doses of her medication but told her this surgery will not work for her. But the surgeon says it will work. Do any of you have thyroid problems or know of others that do that have had this surgery? Will the surgery work or not? Any responses would be greatly appreciated! Char

I had surgery on 1/12/04 and have lost 73 pounds since them... HOWEVER... I started this journey at 304 and have lost a TOTAL of 102!!!! I am at 202 now and cant wait for the next 3 pounds to come off so I can offically be BELOW 200 pounds. We are all doing so well!!! GO US!!!! Hugs, Harriet 304/202/160

Actually I'm down -75, Michelle is down -78. Congrats on your weight loss!! I always love it when i hear of anyone being able to get off any of their medications that they were required to take prior to WLS. My mother is diabetic (on insulin) and is hoping to have some type of WLS soon. I look forward to the day she no longer has to take all of her meds. René
