Hi Betty, You have nothing to be ashamed of. First of all everyone's scale is different. I had three different doctors appointments in the month of July and all three were completely different. One scale said that I was 15 pounds heavier than mine at home. I couldn't believe it. I did ask the doctor and she told me to go by the scale I use on a regular basis, but to compare it to my surgeons office. My surgeons scale says that I weigh five pounds more than my scale at home. You are doing an awesome job! There is no giving up. Just keep moving forward and keep positive thoughts. Look at how far you have come and look at where you are going! Hey, there are tons of road blocks on this journey we are all on. We need to expect them and move around them and keep going! Take care and again, you're doing awesome! Kasey

Topic: RE: I am curious, anyone with hunger pangs?
There was an article in Atlanta Journal Constitution this past week that stated that bypass patients feel less hunger within fifteen minutes after surgery. Don't quote me, but it mentioned that an enzyme that is released to let us know that we are full is released earlier.....something like that. As for me, I am hungry all the time and jealous of you guys!!!!!! Patty 341/221 -120 1/12/04

I can totally relate to your frustration. I started a lot larger than you and have lost 80 lbs in six months. I have only lost 4 lbs in the last month. I still weigh 270 lbs and figure if I get below 200 it will be a miracle. The surgeon did remind me that if I lose to 210 lbs and have plastic surgery that I'll probably end up around 170. That I can live with. My friend who had surgery the day after me has lost a total of 79 lbs but has been on a 4 week plateau. Maybe you and I are on a semi-plateau and the loss will pick back up soon. If I were eating sweets or eating foods that I wasn't suppose to eat I could understand but I am compliant on my exercise, food, water. My doctor told me I had three things that lead to slow weight loss (1) Over 50,, (2) diabetic, (3) BMI 61 before surgery. He said any of the three could lead to slow loss and having all three make it a given. The good news is being a slow loser makes me feel a bit less guilty about allowing myself to ever get so big. Obviously it was a metabolic thing rather than over eating. Hang in there, it will happen for you. You still have a year to finish losing your weight. I still have hope when I read about people still losing at 2 - 2 1/2 years. Pat 410/352/270/?????

Topic: RE: What are you eating now?
Congratulations on the 100 lb weight loss. Wow, wi**** were me. I'd lost 80 when I went in for my six month check-up. I am eating 3-3.5 oz protein and a salad most meals. Breakfast is still giving me a fit because the meat & eggs makes me sick. I've tried them separante, same result. Dr. Atkins low carb, high protein cereal does fine in my pouch but the nutritionist keeps telling me I need to eat food not cereal. Basically I am eating around 700 calories which is all I can hold and stay with the 3 meals, 1 snack my doctor's food plan outlines. Many of us are slower than others but we will all get there before this is over. Best luck for your continued wls success.

Don't put yourself down! I've followed my program to the letter and only lost 80 lbs in six months. Sounds to me like you are doing great. I can understand the depressed state though. Who wouldn't be depressed to think they'd lost 23 lbs more than they have actually lost. Lets hope the gym's scale is correct and your friends is wrong. I'd have to run by the doctors office for a weigh in to find out which is right. You will get past this temporary depression in a few days, then get back up and work harder at losing your weight. Best wishes for a continued successful WLS journey.

Topic: RE: Is this really possible?
It doesn't sound like a possibility to me, but I'm not the doctor. Judging from all the varying information they give out to RNY patients I don't think even they know. Everything you hear says the weight loss will slow down in the second six months and again in the third six months. My surgeons formula is as follows: 1st six months 86 lbs 2nd six months 43 lbs (1/2 of first six months) 3rd six months 21 lbs (1/2 of second six months) My surgeon says if you reach a place your body says is the stopping point that you will just quit losing at that point. I lost 80 lbs my first six months which I figure is average, but I haven't lost but 2 pounds the last two weeks. My friend had surgery the day after me (lost 79 lbs) and she has been on a 4 week plateau. My surgeons office told me to stay between 600-800 calories a day. I ask if it was possible I was in starvation mode because a lot of people on the message boards mentioned it but the nutritionist said my body would not lose weight on 1000 calories a day. I stepped my calories up around 700 a day and my weight loss has slowed down. Maybe it was just time to slow down. The good news is that all your surgeon can do is whip you with a wet noodle if you don't make it in 9 months. Then he'll tell you to finish up by 12 months. Don't let him get you down. You know if you are doing what you are suppose to do. If we are following the program (food, exercise, water)and the weight isn't dropping there isn't much we can do. One thing my body taught me a long time ago is that it is ultimately in control. When it wants to let go of the weight it will, but otherwise forget it. Best of luck for your continued success!

I've done a lot of reading about the RNY surgery in the last year but I've never heard of this. Like the previous posted said you might be able to connect with someone on the main message board. Hope all goes well for you.
