Topic: Advice please
Hi, I recieved a letter back from my insurace company today. They approved my request for surgery on my arms, but denied my request for pannilectomy (sp?). I have a hernia and was expecting that this would help my case for them approving my surgery. Any suggestions on how to deal with an appeal? The surgeon's office suggests that I need to be able to present evidence of rashes and the like. I didn't have that happen. I have used over the counter 'stuff' to prevent that from happening...consequently, I have no evidence! Thanks for your suggestions.

Michelle, I post mostly on the VA message board... I didn't even know this one was here... I've lost ummm 206 lbs... was 480 now I'm down to 274... I'm kinda stalled weight loss wise.. but I've been upping my protein, and water intake... don't eat many carbs at all and steer clear of most sugar... Have you had issues with your finger tips peeling? is this a deficiency sypmtom? I've been without insurance since november of 05 so I've not been to a doc since last october.. he checked my levels then and everything was a-ok... my hands and feet get cold very easily now as well... tis is for anyone that reads it too... any ideas? -Ross

Hola Tracy, my name is Celines I had my surgery in Jan. 20004 . I went from 296/293 to 126 and I am 5'6". People started to ask me if I was sick because I looked sick, wayyyy too skiny, any way I have gained weight, a total of 35 pounds and I weight 170 pounds. I feel ok with it but I understand your struggle. Let me tell you is not easy to fight back and get rid off those last pounds but it is not impossible. Stay on top of what you eat and don't deprived yourself of treats because we all deserve them. I am trying to control the size of the portions of what I eat but I don't think I will go on a diet. Let's see what my nutrionist say, I have an appointment next month. I have trouble getting all the water I need and many times during the day I feel so thirsty. I feel sick if I eat junk food but I have to be honest, I EAT IT ANY WAY I hope you understand that you are not alone, sooner or later we all find ourselves struggling with food, surgery or no surgery. It doesn't really matter. Any way here I am any time you need someone to talk to. Feel free to email me any time. Good Luck. Celi

Not doing well. I am stuck with 20 pounds to loose. Here are my stats. Height 5' 1". Weight has gone from 240 day of to 140 today. I have decided to read the South Beach diet and see if that helps. Is anyone else struggling? I am snacking on junk food that is in my kitchen at work. I don't snack at home because the food isn't there. My problem is work. Even if I bring in my own food, I still gravitate to the snack cabinet. I just need a kick in the behind. I don't work out because I make excuses for my self not to. Thanks for letting me whine. Hi Nancy, It's me, Catherine, I haven't come to this wonderful site for sooo long I am ashamed to say how long it has been. I am still firmly stuck at 190, as I have been for 2 yrs. now, it doesn't seem to matter how much I eat or what, I'm still firmly stuck. Mind you that is better than 270, and I will be happy if that is all I get, but I can't keep my mind from wondering about those last 40 lbs. and how much better I would feel about myself. I have even been walking about 3 miles a few times a week but nothing seems to help, I have heard recently of being weight resistant and I am checking into that. I'm glad everyone is doing pretty well, and at least we do feel better than we did!

Albert, I know you do not want to go back to the way things used to be. Push yourself. Think about how much better you quality of life is. It is summer time. The weather is beautiful. Get out of the house and move your butt. Keep it together MANNNN!! All jokes aside. We all fight this fear everyday. Pray for God to help you discipline yourself. Everyday. It is much easier to lose 15/20 pounds than it is to lose 50/60 pounds. Once you get back on the water and protein. The 15pounds will fall off. Make a list of all the outside activities you have always wanted to do, and spend the summer checking them off. I bet those 15pounds and then some will be gone by the holidays. Then you can gain them back again! You can do it Albert. And remember, you will always have support here at Obesity help! Take Care, Kimmie (She who is without EQUAL)
