Hair Problems

I started losing hair about 6 months out. Thank goodness I had a lot to start with because I am still having lots of problems with it. I take a handful out of the brush every time I brush. Any suggestions? I am really getting worried. I take Avon's Hair Vitamins and all of the supplements that the doctor ordered. I also thought maybe I should stop coloring it, but I am also worried about going gray so suddenly!

Susan, I freaked out when I started losing mine too - but I will say it hasn't lasted as long as yours has - I'm sorry to hear that. I too, color my hair regularly and thought that might be a problem. My hairdresser said no, as long as your hair is healthy (on the shaft, not necessarily the root) then you can color and it won't affect falling out from the root. If you see a lot of breakage (shorter strands falling out or shorter strands sticking up) then there may be a problem with the coloring. I started using GNC's hair & nail formula. But I see that you are already doing that. Maybe try drinking more fluid for a week and see how that goes? I'm not a hair stylest, but I can empathize with you! Good luck dearie! God Bless... HI SWEETIE!!!! My switch sister, Im so proud of your weight loss , I bet I wouldnt even recognise you now.. As for hair loss, I had it really bad from months 3-7, and I color as well.. I switched to Vista Vitamins (Blech, they taste awful dont get the chewables), bought Nioxxin from Walmart's hair salon when it had a 2 for one sale, got on B-12 shots, and upped my protein again..And its almost stopped now..The vista vitamins are gross and expensive (Remember, dont get the chewables, yee-uck ) but they have really helped... Best of luck to you, and big hugs are being sent your way

Hi Im sorry to hear about your hair loss. It's scarey I know, but I just have to let you know that it isn't from coloring your hair unless it is dry and damaged and breaking. More than likely it is falling out from the scalp. That is a sign that you are 1. not getting enough calories 2. not enough protein or 3. it is hormonal. The hair and nails are an appendage of the body and will be the first sign that there is something going on internally. I would talk to your nutritionist soon. I would think twice about stopping the color because it would probably make you feel worse about your hair. I hope this helps. If you have any question Im here for you. Good luck. LisaWA

I appreciate the advice! I decided that I would get the non-permanent type hair color because it is supposed to be gentler on the hair. I have really been trying to get in the protein, but I think I do most days! I think the hair loss has slowed just slightly, so maybe I am doing better.
