Is this really possible?
I had my 6 month follow up last week and although my Dr said I need to eat more and exercise more I'm doing pretty good. But he had set my goal weight at 142 all along and now he is saying 137. Well, that's only five lbs so no big deal really. But the big issue I have is he expects for me to be at my goal weight by my 9 month anniversary. I know a lot of the girls on here are already close to their goal weight (my hat is off to all of you) however, I have not been one for losing THAT fast. I still have 45 lbs to go. SO can this really be accomplished in the next 3 months? I have been really exercising a lot and trying to eat more. My calorie intake has just flat out been way too low! I know that and I'm trying to up it because he said that will help me lose faster again. I'm trying to make this happen but I don't know if it's possible considering I've been losing slow for the last 3 months. Maybe the exercise and extra calories will help????

Charlotte,
That's 15lbs per month... I'm no doctor - but is that even good for you this far out? I thought our weight loss kind of slowed from this point out to a more reasonable rate. You will lose more by eating more if you are not getting a sufficient amount of calories for your body to run efficiently. But in my opinion (again - not medical) one can only exercise so much.
9 months is no magic number hun. Neither is a weight - they are all only numbers. Do what feels good to you. Stop at a size that you are comfortable with - that's a better judge than a weight.
Good luck - you are doing great! Keep up the good work!

Dear Char... Like the other Charolette said.. weight is only a number. I'm not worried about what the dr said about what my goal weight should be.. I'm at 181 right now.. I think another 20 or 25 lbs is all my frame should be worried about. I shall see when I get there. I'm doing water aerobics three times a week.. and am satisfied with that for now. I walk a lot at work.. so my job is not that sedentary. I don't really gauge my food all that much.. I keep it around 1000.. I think.. I'm still losing about 2 lbs a week.. sometimes nothing..
I think that we have been obsessed with the weight so long.. and although the goal is a good one.. I think I am focusing more on my life now than ever. I've been too worried about my weight to do much with me. Now I'm trying to shift my focus a little. Just follow the rules and live. I think we are now going to have to focus on being "normal" what ever that is... but I think we are up to the challenge.. we are now at weights that so many people would kill for.. or have wls for.. so.. keep up the good work and LIVE.. It doesn't sound like a possibility to me, but I'm not the doctor. Judging from all the varying information they give out to RNY patients I don't think even they know. Everything you hear says the weight loss will slow down in the second six months and again in the third six months. My surgeons formula is as follows:
1st six months 86 lbs
2nd six months 43 lbs (1/2 of first six months)
3rd six months 21 lbs (1/2 of second six months)
My surgeon says if you reach a place your body says is the stopping point that you will just quit losing at that point.
I lost 80 lbs my first six months which I figure is average, but I haven't lost but 2 pounds the last two weeks. My friend had surgery the day after me (lost 79 lbs) and she has been on a 4 week plateau. My surgeons office told me to stay between 600-800 calories a day. I ask if it was possible I was in starvation mode because a lot of people on the message boards mentioned it but the nutritionist said my body would not lose weight on 1000 calories a day. I stepped my calories up around 700 a day and my weight loss has slowed down. Maybe it was just time to slow down.
The good news is that all your surgeon can do is whip you with a wet noodle if you don't make it in 9 months. Then he'll tell you to finish up by 12 months.
Don't let him get you down. You know if you are doing what you are suppose to do. If we are following the program (food, exercise, water)and the weight isn't dropping there isn't much we can do. One thing my body taught me a long time ago is that it is ultimately in control. When it wants to let go of the weight it will, but otherwise forget it.
Best of luck for your continued success!
