Where should I end up?
Hey all!
Things are going great - I couldn't ask for more! I'm down 65lbs (slow by most standards - but as long as it's comin off - I don't care!) and over 40 inches! 20 off my waist alone!
My question is this - what weight should I end up with? I am 5' 7" tall, with a large bone structure. I have a lot of muscle (always have...) and larger thighs (NEVER going to go away! So what do you all think? I would like to see 150lbs, but is that realistic? I don't really have a set number in mind - more where my body rests naturally, but curious as to what you all think.
Thanks for your help!

Barbie,
My body type sounds similar to yours. My ideal medical weight for my build is 156 at 5'8". I found that out by looking at a chart in my PCP's office. Also, if you can get your hands on a BMI chart, you could dig through it to find what your ideal BMI is for your height and then go down and it will show you the weight that corresponds with that. Actually, I just found one at: www.consumer.gov/weightloss/bmi.htm
This system doesn't take into acount frame size which obviously must be considered. The BMI chart says I should be around 139lbs, which would make me look sickly and gross. Totally not a goal for us to strive toward. My guess is that at 150 something you will look hot and feel like a million bucks.

I stumbled on to the site this weekend.. it will help you determine a possible goal weight. Hope it helps.

Barbie,
I too am 5'7" with a large frame and lots of muscle. Because I was so proportioned and muscular most people do not believe me when I tell them I wore a 22 or 24 size, or that I was almost 300# at time of surgery. They DO notice the change in me in the past 5 months though and are very supportive and I was applauded when I tried on a pair of jeans a co-worker brought for me - size 14 - and they fit!!!
I also have not picked a number (or been given one by my surgeon) as a goal, however, I do want my BMI NOT to correspond with a title with the word 'obese' in it. So looking at the charts, a BMI of 25-27 is considered overweight, 27-30 is mildly obese, and so on up from there. So a BMI of 27 is about a 173# for a 67" tall person, if I am doing the math correctly. So for now, I am thinking about 160#, but depends on how my body looks and how I feel. Maybe more, maybe less.
To figure your BMI: Take your weight in pounds and multiply it by 704.5. Divide this number by the square of your height in inches - 4489 for 5'7" (67 times 67).
Hope this helps!

HI Barbie, First, my name is JoAnn. I too had the surgery on January 19th. In my beginning months it was hard on me as my system was not allowing me to keep down the foods I was eating. So you know where I was most of the time. It was a bummer at first. But I am now 5 months and around 3 1/2 to 4 months after the surgery my system starting digesting the food. Except I still have some problems with noodles, rice and sometimes potatos, Pork chops no mattewr how thin I get them they will noyt digest for me. Other than that I am able to eat most foods now. I weighed 419 before I decided to have the surgery. I lost 21 1/2 pounds 2 weeks before the surgery. I now weigh 303. I total that at 116 pounds. I was at a 3 week stand still not losing weight and I was told that is normal. I am happy with waht I have lost and I no longer have to take my diabetes or B/P meds. I am only taking Celexa for depression and talwin every now and then for my knee pain. I do take a Multiviatmin with iron,. 1500 MG of calcium, B-Complex every day and 1000 Mg B-12 shot once a month. I am so happy to be off my meds. I have 175 pounds to go to get down to be 130 Pounds. But I will see what I look like at 150 pounds. I think I will have to go down to 130 pounds as I am small bone and I am only 5 foot. I wish you much sucess as you comtinue to lose the weight and I also would love to be your new friend and get emails from you. My email addresss is [email protected] I look forward to hearing from you.Take care and God Bless you.
Sincerly,
JoAnn
