Hair Loss Yet?

Hey Gang! I've recently began seeing more hair falling out and left in the brush. I have always been a hair "loser", even though I have quite a bit of it, so I expected it to be more during this period. I just had labs and everything is looking good. I get most of my protein from food, but I do supplement ocassionaly with drinks or bars. My grandmother suggests zinc, but haven't tried that yet. I expected this - so am not freaking out, just curious if anyone else is noticing it yet. I also know that it will stop at some point and that all my hair WON"T fall out. Any other experiences? Happy April!! Barbie 281/235/150

Hi Barbie I had my surgery on 1/5 and have noticed an awful lot of hair on my brush and in the drain after a shower. I thought maybe it WON'T happen to me, but I think it is. Carolyn

I am sooooo scared of hair loss that I have had my hair in braids since my surgery and I am too scared to take them out in fear my hair will come out too.

Barbie, I just seen the doctor Monday and he told me that the hair falls out from the 3rd month through the 6th-7th month. I have very fine thin hair and I am very worried about it. I asked about hair and nail vitamins and he said that they work on some people and some it doesn't help. I am going to get some at Wal-Mart and try them. I guess we will see if I am one of the lucky ones! If you find anymore info on this subject please let me know! Wanda -51

I've heard on other sites that the supplement to use is Biotin. Its a very small pill for hair and nail growth. I have been taking it as a preventative.....we'll see if it works. good luck. michelle -56lbs

Me too! I had surgery 1/22/04 and I too have noticed a bit less up top! I heard that if you eat a T of peanut butter a day that will help. And my dietician told me to drink 3 servings of dairy if you are able to. I'm glad it's gonna come back cause there wasn't that much to begin with! Congrats on your weightloss, I'm 1 pound from my goal of 50 lbs. by the 22nd!

Yep! I really started to notice it about a week before my "official" three-month mark. I'm used to it, though, I had pretty good hairloss after both of my pregnancies. Thankfully I have very thick hair and DH says he hasn't noticed anything yet. I hope it stays that way!

Barbie, I heard its normal at 3 months out to have hair loss. The cause of it is lack of protien. Are you getting your 60 to 80 grams a day? I would drink protien drinks everyday, that might help. So far I haven't lost any hair yet knock on wood. Linda 237.5/198/goal 120

Ok almost 3 months out and 62 pounds down..I must confess 2 weeks after surgery I went and had my long curly hair chemically straightned and trimmed the about 2 weeks ago I had it cut.....I mean shorter...alot shorter barely touches the sholder and had a cute choppy style with layers...looks great and i cant tell if anymore is gone or not I used to lose alot now it seems to be not as much....Think it has something to do with my hair is healthy no damaged or split ends...who knows and I dont really care my cut hides it well and as long as I am losing weight thats all that matters!!!!

Yep, I've noticed more in the brush and shower too. I'm used to it though as I have always had a brush full everyday. But it is more now. I'm three months out and I expected it. I have really thick hair and I had 8 inches cut off after surgery. May have to try the Biotin. I only get protein from my food......can't do the protein shakes. Glad it only lasts a few months. Hang in there everyone...this too shall pass.
