Depression and Being Cold
I had surgery on 1/21/04. I was wondering if anyone has experienced days of being in a depression and other days not. I was wondering how long it has lasted. Wondering about engery levels and how people are feeling. Lastly I was wondering if anyone has been experiencing being cold all the time and how long that lasted.
After the surgery I was so cold I could cry. Depression was my daily companion, but it came and went daily. I'd laugh then cry. I was scared but after 60 days things started to get better. When I am tired I am very cold. Energy levels are a little better than before the surgery. But there are things I just can't do, run up the stairs, bend over for very long, exert myself with bursts of energy. Maybe after 90 days some of my strength will return.
Hi Donna,
Depression after weight loss surgery is quite common. I take an antidepressant so have not had too much trouble with it. I do notice that I am a bit more moody though. I too am cold all the time. My receptionist at work and I have a battle of the thermostat going all the time. If you continue to have problems with depression, please give your surgeon or PCP a call. They can help. Blessings to you.
I feel blessed not to have the problems you describe, but I have read other messages where people do have the problems. Maybe because I am finished with menopause my hormones aren't doing a job on me?
I did experience being cold all the time years ago when I lost a lot of weight on a liquid diet. I thought I was going to freeze to death without my fat insulation.
Best of luck to you. Hope you are feeling great soon.
I am cold a lot too, which is very odd for me. I was always the one roasting in a t-shirt while everyone else was cold wearing sweaters. I've always slept au natural but can't any more because I freeze. I just chalk it up to losing a large layer of insulation and my internal thermostat adjusting itself.
You and I havd the same surgery date and yes I feel cold frequently. Someone said that is because I have a hard time getting all my fluids in, it has a lot to do with your bodies ability to thermoregulate itself. I have noticed that I don't feel as cold when I get all my fluids in. I have briefly felt depressed from time to time mostly in the 1st 8 weeks when I wondered if my whole life was going to continue revolving around food trying to get enough water and protein in and always being to full from protein to have even a taste of side dishes. It's better now.
