Pain on right side, 10wks post op???
Hi guys,
I posted this some time ago on the main message board but wanted to get all of your responses since our surgeries are so close.
I have been experiencing pain and discomfort just to the right of my incision. I had discussed it with my surgeon at my 6 wk appt and he examined me (pushed on my abdomen) and told me it was "normal" and it was just from the trauma of the surgery.
My concern is this...if it is trauma from the surgery why does my left side feel so perfectly normal? No aches no pain. My abdomen is slightly raised on the right side too. He also said this was normal, and that if I had a hernia it would be on the incision line.
It is most painful after alot of physical activity. I walked our mall today and came home and by this evening it was really bothering me. It's like a achey, dull pain. Sometimes it feels like something is pulling. It's just uncomfortable! Are any of your experiencing this? I was so uncomfortable this evening I just feel like something is wrong. I figured at 10 wks post op, any and all pain would be gone. If it weren't for this ache in my right side and the scar I would never known I'd had the surgery. HELP!!!

Thanks Linda, but why would this pain be only on the right side? We have muscles on both sides. Is your right side a little swollen? If it's due to the surgery, why is there no pain on the left side too? Sorry for all the questions, it's just becoming so uncomfortable, and worse if I do any kind of physical activity. Let me know.
Thanks again.

Alot of people are sore if the have the open RNY.......I am not for sure which one you had the Lap or Open.......but when they open you up they put a big bar that pulls your liver out of the way and it can seem tender there for a while! I seen the open RNY done when I was a nursing student and the ladies liver was enlarged and they had to really pull on hers..........and they said that casues more pain for the patient!
Hi Nancy,
I had open RNY and my liver was not enlarged. As I said, I cannot understand why the pain is only on the right side. It sometimes feels like it is going numb (kind of like when your leg goes to sleep) along with a achey, dull pain. It is in a very specific area to the right of my incision and about the size of a saucer plate (the area that is affected). I made a call to my surgeon, but getting ahold of him is like pulling teeth. Any info you can give me will be appreciated.
Thanks!
Kim
Hi Kim, I had open Ryn on 1/26/04 and about 3-4 weeks out I started having alot of pulling pain on the bittom of mu incision, I went in and it was said to me I was forming scar tissue, It was like you say very uncomfortable after alot of walking etc and it lasted about 2 weeks but now its fine, I would double check but I bet that is what seems to be the problem.
Hi Kelli,
Thanks for the response. Yes, that is around the time mine started too.
My concern is this...it is not getting better. If anything, it seems to be constantly there. Mild achiness and then with any physical activity is worsens. I told my surgeon this, but he says this is normal. I just feel that this far out we shouldn't be dealing with this so much. You indicated that the pain went away. Is it completely gone?
Thanks again
