6 wks out-what are you eating?
I had my surgery on 1-29-04 and have lost 35 lbs. I am getting so tired of everything (tuna, chicken, cottage cheese). My doctor said no beef or pork for 6 months. They also said no dried beans (pintos, kidney, butter beans) for six months as well as no raw fruits or vegetables. I was not a big meat eater before and now I have to make myself eat it. I am having a really hard time getting in all of my protein (not most days). Any ideas or suggestions? Tried Atkin's shakes but make me naseous. Thanks, Pat
I'm really eating what I ate before surgery. Of course in minute amounts. I eat roast beef and pork. I eat hot dishes made with hamburger. I eat a LOT of chicken. I eat salad with french dressing. I made chili with beans....the beans are VERY good for you. I eat scrambled eggs with sausage. I don't eat bread unless its toasted. I make sure the pasta I eat is well done. I don't want it to finish "cooking" in my pouch. I eat cheese and crackers and drink Dannon yogurt smoothies. Sugar free Kool aid is my best friend. I drink a LOT of it. So nothing really has changed except the amount of food eaten. Just do some experimenting. And CHEW, CHEW, CHEW.
I haven't had much trouble with anything. Eggs make me queasy. I tried canned spinach....NOT a good choice. Didn't think about it balling up like they say bread does. At least that is what I think happened. Also had some shrimp/broccoli mix that I ate a couple pieces of bow tie pasta. Won't try eating the pasta again....swells. I eat fish allot. Chicken does well. I had some really tender steak and I can do the tender beef jerky bites. I drink a protein shake every morning. I try and eat the protein from the school lunch everyday and in the evening I eat something different every night. Tonight I had bean soup. If I need a snack I eat nuts or cheese.
I am pretty much eating everything I was before. The only three things I am still not suppose to have are corn, bread, & rice. Lately I have been eating eggs, turkey, cheese, and fruit. I wish I liked fish! I know I am not getting in enough protein either. I am just doing the best I can and I hope I can get more in each day.
I had my surgery on 1/20/04 so we are only 9 days apart. I had lost 36 lbs on Sunday which is my day to weigh. You are a bit ahead of me but we aren't suppose to compare (sure)...lol.
My surgeon said at six weeks to stop all protein shakes and bars and that we could eat anything we wanted. They did say some people would have problems with meat and that it varied from person to person. So far the only problem I've had was when I ate grits. The nutritionist said some can't eat beef, others can't eat pork, etc. but to try it again in a week or so. During weeks 3-6 I ate a lot of tuna fish salad, shrimp and fish but I was ready for real meat, 2 oz. fills me up now so that's enough.
Even with being able to eat the meat I am having a hard time getting in the 40-60 gms of protein daily. Most days I barely make the 40 but the nutritionist said that was ok for now.
Best of luck to you on your continued wls journey!
My sugery was on 1/26/04. I am also struggling with getting in enough protien. I have been struggling with severe nausea for approx 3 weeks. It has finally gotten a lot better this week. I have been eating 1/2 of a egg and cheese hot pocket for breakfast along with some grapefruit. For lunch I have been eating Lean Cuisine pasta lunches. I usually eat 1/4 to 1/2 and pick out all the cheese. I eaten a lot of mashed potatoes, pasta, shrimp and salmon for dinner. I have also tried chili and baked potatoes(w/o skin) from Wendys which has worked for me when I have to eat on the go away from home. I tried the Atkins shakes too and they grossed me out. I couldn't drink them either.
Hi,
We had surgery on the same day, and I am down about 32. I've already been on the dreaded plateau...and for 3 weeks lost nothing. But then the loss started again.
I drink an Atkin's shake each morning on my drive to work and eat cheese cubes, or string cheese as snacks to keep me going. I am tolerating fish well, except for broiled crab cakes. Tuna, cottage cheese, Atkins yogurts and bars are how I try to get at least 50-60 grams a day. Oh yeah, my dear hubby made some awesome chicken parm the other week...that was great- protein intake from the cheese and the chicken! I'm not willing to try any steak, besides I rarely ate red meats prior to surgery. I did try a few lettuce leaves the other day with my tuna and that was a nice treat. My hardest habit to break is my intake of beverages at dinner. And I used to drink 8 oz. of water in one gulp all through the day....can't do that any more!
Chicken in any form has been my main food from 6-9 weeks. I sometimes dipped it in ranch dressing, bar-b-que sauce, gravy. Now my nutritionist wants me to start eating more beef and pork to up my protein. I also eat a low carb, no sugar, cereal that has 12 gms of protein in a 4 oz serving. It is made by Morning Start. I eat the Banana Nut but they have other kinds. Since I don't like milk I eat it dry and enjoy hearing the crunch when I chew it.
The low carb store has different flavors of liquid you can add to your water that has a lot of protein in it too. I understand it doesn't thicken the water or have that heavy protein taste. It's not a protein drink as we think of them, body builders use it a lot. I understand GNC has some type of drink they will order for you that has a lot of protein too.
Good luck
