cost of surgery!!

Zada Ann,
Congrats on your weight loss so far! I think that's great that you have added up all of your costs. It is important for others seeking surgery to know. My hospital costs alone were over $40,000. BUT - of course my insurance only accepted $10,900 as reasonable and customary. Of that - I was required to pay $1,000 or so. I will also have to pay up to another $1000 on Dr., Anesthesiologist, labs, x-rays, etc. I have a PPO policy, so I have a $500 deductible and have to pay 20% up to another $1,500. As of Jan. 1, 2005, my insurance won't cover the surgery at all (BCBS of FL) - so I'm just happy that I got it in time. $2000 is money well spent!
Take care!

Sounds like you are doing great to me. My lap surgery was 1/20/04 and I have lost 36 lbs. It's good to hear from people who aren't losing 30 lbs a month. Sometimes I feel alone in my slow steady loss but then I read about others that are losing like I am and it makes me feel better.
So far my hospital bills have reached $35,222.00 but I had gallbladder removal at the same time I had wls. The sad part is I had to go out of network so my personal part at this point is $8,000. This is suppose to be the limit for out of pocket expense out of network. I am appealing the out of network treatment since there were no in network doctors listed by my insurance company. I am still thankful to have insurance because $8,000 is a lot easier to deal with than $35,000.
Best of luck along your wls journey.
