Christine Congrats on the 26 pounds-Wow! I'm almost 6 weeks out and down 35 pounds. All doctors diets are different so its up to you if you want to modify it or not. At three weeks I was eating anything I wanted so long as it was soft, chili, sf pudding, sf sherbert, chicken salad, tuna salad, pinto and cheese from taco bell, ect. Just remember to eat slow, and chew everything well, most important stop when you feel full, especially when your eating in public! My doctor told me give my pouch 6 weeks to heal good, just eat softly until then, but that I should experiment with different foods until then, if something doesn't agree with you today try again around the 3 month mark. I cannot tolerate carbs such as breads or pasta- I feel tooo full! Also no raw veggies or fruits. I have a hard time with most meat- thank god for peanuts, just a hand full a day. I too had a hard time with the cravings until I started working with a veriety of foods good luck, let me know if I can help. also string cheese- yummy! char

Wow Christine.......26lbs is great! I lost 16 lbs at 10 days post op......but not sure since then. I had Open RNY on Jan 30th. I was on clear liquids (plus protein drinks****il 10 days out.....I was then able to start mushy foods.....described to me as anything the consistency of baby food that you did not need to chew.......cottage cheese, yogurt, pureed soups....and if that sat well, I could progress to eggs (soft scrambled.....the tougher they are the harder on the pouch)....tuna salad ( I pureed it in a food processor)...refried beans....with a touch of cheese....I could do the egg, but there is a big difference between an over cooked scrambled egg and a soft cooked scrambled egg. Today I made chopped liver....and that did really well......I too have a tough time with carbs and am trying to avoid them altogether.....but the only way for me to get enough protein in is to use an unflavored powder (I use Unjury available @ www.Unjury.com ) disolved in warm tomato soup......you cannot dectect the powder at all. My new best friend is Crystal Light Ice Tea......but with all the water I am drinking, who has time for tea. Today I sarted a food/vitamin journal, and has really helped. Feel free to email me....we are about on the same schedule.....date wise. I hope this helped! Laura Surgery 1/30/04 295/279/140

26 lbs in 2 weeks is quite a lot. I have lost 25 lbs in my first four weeks and my primary physician thinks that is too fast. I, also , experimented with things as soon as I got home, almost. My first real solid food, I was craving meat, was a vienna sausage mashed up with mayo and mustard on a cracker. I was able to eat 2 of them. Haven't wanted them since, even though no problems with them. Try your eggs mixed up in a tablespoon or two of grits, (if you are a grits girl). Instant oatmeal was good but couldn't do the regular oatmeal. And I love cheese and crackers. I was able to eat crackers at the end of the first week. It was my first solid food, but it dissolves into mush before you swallow it. The only problem I have now is trying to eat too fast. That is something that just takes time. I have NEVER vomited or had nausea the first time. Are you taking something for your stomache? Protonix, Zantac, etc? I think that helps a lot. Good luck with your eating. You really need to try things at your own pace. Baked fish was wonderful and I was finally able to eat the tender portion of a slice of prime rib in the 4th week. And it was to die for. Just go slow.

I THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR EMAILS. I DID TRY A LITTLE BIT OF CHESSE OFF A PEICE OF PIZZA AND SIP IT UP DIDNT DO GOOD. BUT I TRIED AN EGG AND IT WAS GOOD IF I COULD OF EAT MORE THAN A FEW BITS. I THINK I AM SCARED OF THE BUT I EAT FAST ASLO SO I NEED TO SLOW THAT DOWN ALSO. I WONDERED IF ANY ONE STILL HAD DRAINIST AFTER 2 WEEKS THE DR KEPT MY DRAIN TUBE IN MY BELLY BUTTON AND SAID EVERY ONE IS DIFFERENT. THIS WORRIES ME ABOUT EATING ALSO

OMG, you guys are so great! I thought I was the only "cheater" and had doomed myself in my mind to failure... I have added a couple of crackers to my lunch and supper.. it adds the crunch that I crave... and boy do I crave it. Just some sustence please.. something to crunch. I have a problem eating too fast too.. it is so good that so many of us are in the same boat. I've not received permission to eat anything that wasn't blenderized.. but I figure if I chew really good then it isn't a problem.. the only thing is sometimes I forget to chew really good.. so I wind up spitting it back up .. only happened a few times.. I learned real quick.. chew chew chew. I've almost given up on protein drinks.. hate them.. I've had a real problem with nausea today.. almost everything I put in my mouth makes me feel that way.. but it is over in about 20 minutes and I'm back on track. I'm up to less than a half cup and more than 1/3.. if that makes sense.. I don't eat much at a time and have leveled off to meals three times a day since my intake has gone up.. the crackers really helped to ease my head hunger... I'm down 34lbs since January 16th. So it must be ok. Nothing fits like it did.. isn't it wonderflul???? Hope something I said helps.. ~ Jan

I had a problem with eating too fast also. Someone told me to wait 2-3minutes between bites and that would help. I tried it and it works. It takes a long time to eat but I really need to get the protein in. One night someone called on the phone and I talked to them while I ate and that wasn't smart. Now I just eat-no reading, watching TV or talking on the phone. I will talk to my husband but I remind him I have to concentrate. Hope this helps. Pat
