Hello Fellow January WLS friends.... I'm a little down - I had surgery on Jan 21 and have only lost 11 lbs since then. I know that not everyone loses at the same rate, and I also know that it takes the body awhile to get adjusted. But 11 lbs???? I walk at least a mile a day for last two weeks, I drink, drink and drink some more. I aim for 500 cals a day, but don't always make it. What is the problem here??? I KNOW that it will come off, but I guess it is just disappointing to go through all this for a weight loss that I could have done with pills in three weeks - thats all... God Bless - Barbie

Hi Barbie! Please try not to feel too bad about your weight loss. I see in your profile that your bmi is like 20 pts less than mine, so maybe you just don't have as much to lose as the people you hear about all the time losing 20 lbs in a week. We all lose at different speeds, and it sounds like you're doing everything right, so the weight has to come off. And plus if you lose a little slower maybe you won't have as much hanging skin! The good thing about losing 11lbs this time is that you'll keep it off and lose a whole lot more. Good luck, I hope you feel better! -Monika

Hi, I had my surgery on January 24 (lap banding). The first week I lost 14 lbs and then the next two times I weighed I weighed the same. With two bites of cottage cheese and baby cereal with Splenda for breakfast I was upset. I decided to wait another week before weigning. After five days I weighed and I was down another 4 lbs. It will come off. I am going to the Y (joined last week). I can not do the treadmill without getting winded at 1/4 mile (my tops) but the treadmill in the water is great and I can do 1 mile. I am also finding the recombent bike fun and I am doing 2-3 miles every other day on that. Eventually it has to come off. I am having problems finding things I can eat when the family goes out other than mashed or baked potatoes. Soup is getting really old! I am in corpus but we are rivals -- my husband is a seminole! We lived in Tallahassee and then in New Smyrna Beach while my husband taught at UCF in Daytona and Orlando. I really miss Florida and you are so lucky. I really have to think of this as a tool to help in the weight loss process. Can you eat any real food (not mashed) yet? Jackie

Barbie-You are doing great!! Walking a mile already everyday-way to go Girl. I had lap-RNY on 1-29-04 and my surgeon has us on high protein shakes only plus 64oz of fluid this week. You might want to make sure you are getting at least 60 grams of protein a day. Otherwise it looks like you are doing great!! I have had some really bad days lately too, wondering why I did this but it is just my head talking because everywhere you look, TV, magazines, paper is food. I am sure it will get better. Pat

Barbie, Make sure you are getting enough protein. If you don't, your body will think "EEK, FAMINE!" and hold on to every ounce it can. I suggest you add a protein shake and some extra water to what you are already doing. I have no experience with WLS (YET), but I have seen this in so many cases in other weight loss attempts, it just makes sense. It is especially true if you have made multiple diet attempts in the past. Hope you have a big drop in the next few days! Joy (Surgery scheduled 3/1/2004)

I have to add to what everyone else is telling you. It WILL come off!! You are doing awesome with exercise and everything you are supposed to do. We are all losing at a different rate....some more, some less. Please do not be discouraged. I think you are doing super.

Barbie, Congratulations on 11 lbs lost!! Don't worry, more will come! I am not walking nearly as much as you are! Way to go! I do not have very much energy. By the end of the day I am just dragging! I have secret fears that WLS won't work for me and I went through all of this for nothing. But, I think that is a pretty common fear. 11 pounds is 11 pounds girl. Plus, with diet pills it would not be permanent. This is!! Be encouraged! Your WLS pal, Suzzette
