I had Lap RNY on January 20, 2004. the first week was rough, I feel great now. I lost 20lbs the first week at my first visit witht the surgeon. Now Iam worrying, I went to my PCP yesterday and his scale said I was up 1 lb. I am eating what I'sm suppose to, actually a little less because I can't get everything in. What's going on? Iam affraid this isn't working for me. I know it's early only two week out and all but I'm scared none the less.

I had surgery 1/6 and lost 11 pounds my first week. I am 4 weeks out with a total loss of 22 pounds. I myself have the same fear of not losing more because the nurse pretty much told me to quit eating 3 times a day and to only eat 2 times a day and not to worry about getting the protein in. My nutritionist says the opposite. I'm going to ask my doctor on Monday but I know where you are coming from. I can't get all the protein in and I can't eat much myself. I am trying to up the liquids however and increase the exercise. Hang in there. All our bodies are different and we will lose at different rates. I have thyroid problems and have never lost quickly.

Hi, I had the same thing happen to me. I gained 2 pounds and could not figure out what was going on. Then my period showed up. In a couple days the melt started again. I'm losing fairly slowly too. I eat two meals a day because that is all I can get in plus liquids. I'm confident that you will begin to lose again too. I think it's much to early to determine if we are a success or not. Our body is adjusting to all this new plumbing. Best wishes on your journey.

This happens to a lot of people. I didn't loose any weight my 2nd and 3rd week (actually gained 3 pounds), I brought it up in my support group and at least 1/2 the people there said that they all had close to the same problem and the each thought that they were going to be the one person this surgery didn't work for and were upset or scared. Glad to say, all got over the hump and have lost a lot of weight - all were actually at their ideal weight being 1 1/2 to 3 years out. Your body is adjusting, your metabolism is adjusting. It takes some time for our bodies to come out of shock and realize it's okay to let that food go.
