post op discoveries...

Well, I'm 5 days post op. My surgeon was stellar (only 1.5 hours to do RNY and galbladder removal!), and my hospital stay a short 3 days. I'm glad to be home, though still feeling a little woozy. I've discovered some things...My serious "gas" cramps in the hospital I think were due to the milk in my foods. I've switched to lactose-free things and am having no troubles. I have to be putting things in my mouth all the time in order to get the fluids and protein that I need. My favorite thing to drink is warm Campbels vegetable beef soup without the solids. Yum, and who would of thought? My least favorite is the protein shakes- gack! My husband is very capable, strong, and supportive. He says that the staples and bruises are sexy...(?)...kind of like I've been tortured and interrogated and didn't cave in. Very GI Jane. Whatever. My children (2.3 and 3.10), though well cared for while I was away, can't get enough of my cuddles and caresses. Which goes to show you that no one does it like mom, huh?

Hi Catherine! Congrats on your speedy surgery. Sounds like things went very well. You must be so glad to be on the other side. I just had my surgery last Thursday. I got home on Saturday. If you had of asked me yesterday, I would have said I wouldn't do it again. But today I feel SO much better. Thanks for the tip on the Campbells soup. I didn't think of that one. I've been having low fat creamed mushroom, broccoli, and chicken soups. All blended of course. It will be nice to taste something new. Have you stepped on the scales yet? I haven't. I think I'm going to wait a bit longer. Maybe this protein shake will help... it's actually quite good: BioChem Lo-Carb protein powder, 1/4 cup low fat low sugar creamy flavored yogurt, and 8 oz of milk all blended. It tastes pretty good and my energy is so much better! I've got two kids too. Ages 3 & 6. They were really excited to see me. It hard to get the rest we need and be playful as much as they like!! Hang in there. I hope you continue to have a speedy recovery. If you wouldn't mind sharing any tips or things that come up that are working... would you share? Thanks so much! Holly
