Open Recovery Time

Hi everyone. I am new here. I am seriously thikning about the surgery with a doc that only does an open procedure. I need to know how rough the recovery was. I am playing single mom thanks to the military. I can arrange day care for the week of hospital/recovery time and then have the weekend free. I would like to take care of my 3 1/2 year old son after that. Just diapers and food - he is pretty self sufficient. Is this realistic? (Granted after my c-section I was carrying my hubby up stairs a week later) Michele [email protected]

Hi, I'm a military wife too. Where are you stationed at? Well, I'm having surgery on monday the 26th. I was told to have someone with me for about 3 weeks or so to help out with me and my kids ages 7 and 4. I dont think this is realistic for you to do this on your own. I would have someone there to help you out. linda email me anytime [email protected]

hi michelle, I am having a DS on the 27th . I have a 14 month old special needs child and a 3 yr old. Trust me there is no way that u should do this by yourself. You would probably rip the incision out. I know it is difficult, to get help. I am fortunate to have my mom close by and hopefully my husband as well. Do u have any friends or anyone else that could maybe help you during your recovery? -shauna

Michele, Hello and welcome. I'm a mom of 3 small children. I just had the RNY open. I would say if you can get someone to help for just a few days after the surgery that would be great. It is hard , but it's so worth it. I would say keep " easy " foods to make for your son. Also stock up on stuff before surgery so you don't have to run out to the store 3 days after surgery ( like I did ) Best wishes to you, Kristin

OK, I should have added that I live with my mom and she would be home at night and on the weekend to help. Ideal situation would be to have surgery on Friday be home on Sunday and have daycare all that week. Thank you all very much
