5 More days!!!!!!
My name is Holly and I live in MIchigan. My surgery is in 5 more days and I am a bit scared and excided. I have a few major questions that I would like an answer to.
1. How acttive were you before surgery? My surgen required that I walk 2 miles a day, 2 months before surgery and I did not follow by that. So I'm worried about blood clots after surgery. I'm 4 ft 11 inch. and 307#.
2. I was a very light smoker and I was told to stop smoking 10 days before surgery. I quite 3 days ago and my surgery is in 5 days. Should I be worried? I have been smoking for 16 years, and only smoked socially 1 or 2 a day.
I don't have my own personal computer, I'm at my sisters so if someone can call me now, that would be soooo coolllll...

Thanks so much

Holly,
I can't answer your questions because I am not a smoker and my doctor didn't tell me to start walking before (can't really due to painful knees). I know it will be very important to walk as soon as possible after surgery and keep walking. Also, be sure and take deep breaths and cough (use a pillow against your stomach) after surgery. They should give you a little meter to use to make the little ball go up (Spirometer, I think). This is very important to do just like they say. I remember these things from having and open abdominal hysterectomy.
My surgery is on the 29th so I understand your excitement and fear. You will be in my prayers. Pat
Hello Holly,
My surgery is the 29th. I am not a smoker so I really can't answer that, my surgeon sent me to a fitness center to talk to a gentlman there. He just has me getting up from the couch with legs spread slightly and keeping my back staight so that I do not put the weight on my knees. Also I don't know how to explain it but I keep my feet on the floor and lay my back on the seat of couch and head leans on the part where your back would normally be. I arch my back then push my back into the seat as hard as I can. I helps with stomach muscles. If I could walk 2 miles a day I wouldn't be in this shape. That just sounds crazy to me. One of the reasons we have this surgery is we are to heavy to exercise properly. God bless and have a speedy recovery. Linda
