My surgery is scheduled for the 27 of Jan but I am thinking of changing surgeons. I did talk to my Dr. about pouch size and he does leave it much bigger than other Dr's. My doctor leaves it 6 - 8 ounces, 3 or 4 x's greater than most other Dr's. Anyway will meet with my Dr. this Wed. Jan 21 and go from there.

Marcy, I understand from my surgeon (Dr. Schweitzer at Hopkins Bayview) that most pouches eventually normalize at about 4-6 ounces by around 10 months to 1 year out, after starting at 2-3 ounces. I think I would also be hesitant to start with the larger size. Since you are so close to your surgery date and probably have done a lot of your pre-op prep, have insurance approval, etc., you might try calling Dr. Peter Liao about the new WLS program at Union Memorial Hospital. He was at University Hospital and I liked him very much, although I went with Schweitzer because Liao was changing hospitals I didn't want to wait. I understand the new Union program is up and running now, though, and with so much advance work done, he may be able to schedule you sooner than some other docs. Good luck. Linda
