Yvonne, I also take Wellbutrin XL. The only trouble I had in the hospital was that the pharmacy there only stocked Wellbutrin SR, so I had to take an SR pill in the morning and one in the evening instead of one XL dose a day. They said I could resume the XL when I came home -- and I have, without problems -- but to keep an eye on how it was going for a month or so. Apparently the RNY re-routing of your digestive system can affect the way a time-released medication is absorbed, so ultimately I may want to switch back to SR. Hope that helps. Good luck with your surgery. Linda

Linda. i see you just had your surgery done on the 2nd? You didn't mention anything about being in terrible pain or distress so i imagine you are hanging in there on the liquid diet? Thank you so much for your experience so far with the Wellbutrin. My Dr. wants to switch me to the generic Wellbutrin that is not time released , but I would have to buy those because she does not get samples that are not time released. my insurance does not cover medication and i already pay for other meds I can not get from samples. I am bipolar. Anyway i was hoping i could stay on the Wellbutrin i take now. Thanks again. Yvonne.

Yvonne, I was never in "terrible pain" throughout the whole process, and I'd say only in moderate pain for about the first 8 hours. That was from the gas they pump into the stomach to do laproscopy, and it dissapates pretty quickly. And liquids-only was just three days before I got into the soft/pureed foods diet, which my doc keeps us on for 4 weeks. So far I'm not having any trouble with it. I eat low-fat cottage cheese, Eggbeaters made with low-fat cheesee, pureed chicken with mashed potatoes, etc., and I am doing great (-15 pounds in week 1). I used to be on the non-time-released Wellbutrin (SR) before switching to XL, so it didn't really matter to me. I know it's expensive if you have to pay out of pocket, though, so I'm sure you can keep taking the XL afterwards. I went right back to the XL the day I came home and have not had any problems. Good luck with it all. I'm sure you'll do really well. Linda

Hi Yvonne I am scheduled for 1/20 too and I take Wellbutrin SR, I was told I would be able to continue that after but the release is different. Try the SR I prefer if over the XL. How are you doing otherwise? i have my EGD this Tuesday and my EKG Weds. I bought the chewable centrum vitamins and ordered the fleet kit! I can't wait to get into some of my skinny clothes. I went to a post-op support group last week and that was great. I got to see that people relly do have normal lives after surgery. Everyone was so upbeat and helpful that my nerves have calmed. I'm in NJ. Lets try to keep in touch. Marcy

Hi Marcy. We are getting close! i had so many response to my post and they were so helpful. i feel much better. i have been going to support meetings for about 4 months and early on I would leave them thinking, well those people still have to be on a diet. I will just go home and try harder. needless to say i would fail again. i need that tool that wls gives you. Let me know how you do . This next week i have appt. and tests thru-out the week too. Yvonne.
