I just got home from the hospital where I had the lap RNY on Wednesday morning - although that afternoon and evening I was quite groggy I have to say that I have had very little pain and NO pain at the incision sites - the first night I had pain in the shoulders and a horrible sore throat.......This was a lot easier than when I had my gall bladder out a couple of months ago......Now bring on the weight loss!!!!! Take care all, Tammy

Wow...this is GREAT news for me, since I'm having my RNY done Lap (when I have it done...had a 1/28 date that'**** a speed-bump, but it WILL happen..."when?" is the question...). Sore throat is probably from the intubation, shoulder pain isn't unusual after general anesthesia (I've been cut a few times myself). It's the LACK of overall pain that just made me do a happy dance!!! Gotta love those laps!!! Hehehe... So glad for you: welcome home, REST, recuperate, and have fun being a "loser"!!!

That is so great to hear since my surgery is the 21st and its a lap RNY. I think the shoulder pain is from the gas they use to pump up the stomach cavity.

Pat, Wanda, and others: It has truly been amazing so far........Again, the ONLY pain that I had was from an infiltrated IV, a sore throat from the intubation, and shoulder pain from the gas used in the laparoscopic portion of the procedure that, for some reason, migrates upward.......It's a learning process - I am unsure of what to feel in my tummy since there is no pain there.......anyway, take it one step at a time!!! Take care, Tammy

Tammy, good post. I had my lap RNY January 2 and can't believe how great I felt within 3-4 days. The only pain I really have felt was in my chest and shoulders that first 24 hours or so from the gas. But that dissapates pretty quickly. Since then, I have found it almost SHOCKING to me how good I feel. If your surgery is coming up, take heart. I had heard horror stories about the pain the first week or so, and my experience is like Tammy's: you might feel rotten the first few hours, but VERY FAST you will start to feel good. And I lost 15 pounds the first week, so that definitely helped me feel great. Good luck, all! Linda

So glad to hear your success, makes it so much easier for all of us almost there folks. I am 1/20. The folks at my support group said the shoulder pain was from the harness they hold you up with? None of them really had significant pain. Any suggestions of what to bring, and let me know what shakes you like? I am really excited maybe the nerves will come during the week but so far I'm ok. My co-workers have made it pretty easy too. Only my 15 year old is being difficult. I don't think she wants me to get down to her size!!! Congrats Can't wait to join you on the other side. M

Hi Marcy!!!! The "Harness" that they hold you up with?....hmmmm.....I am an OR nurse and I know that at our Bariatric Program a harness is not used - they may put a footboard on the bed and invert the bed a little bit but not much - every surgeon has learned his own way to do it I suppose............The shoulder pain is actually from the gas that they use to pump up your abdomnal cavity with so that they can get in there and work their magic!!!! Take care! Tammy
