Surgery Date is close and I am very nervous!!!
Monna, I am going for my pre-op Wednesday (7th) and will have surgery on the 12th. I have had my emotions run from excited to scared to death! I advise you to talk to friends and relatives about your concerns and get them to support you. Then remember what shape our lives are in now and what they will be when we get to the loosing side. My husband has nueropathy and I have seen him in great pain. Take a deep breath and let's get to the loosing side and feel like we should feel, HEALTHY!
I have 5 friends and 1 cousin that has had WLS and all are doing great. Now it's our turn. They all tell me that they went through what we are going through now. Hang in there! God Bless, Wanda
I understand, Monna. My surgery was Friday, January 2, and I was VERY nervous going into it all. The morning of the surgery I was so antsy sitting at the hospital waiting for my turn for all the pre-op testing, IV, etc., but my family was great and kept me calm.
Here's something I wish I had known in advance: the first 6-8 hours after you wake up from the surgery, you may feel rotten and wonder if you've done the right thing. If you're having laproscopic surgery (as I did), the gas they fill your chest cavity with can cause a lot of pain in your chest, neck and shoulders. But they will give you plenty of pain medicines (I had a morphine pump I could use as I needed). And later you will be amazed how fast you started to feel better.
I am now 4 days post-op, came home yesterday and am feeling very good (just tired). Of course, it's too early for me to have any great weight loss or health improvements to share -- hopefully that all comes later. But I wanted to let you know, as someone who's been there very recently, that it's normal to feel scared before the surgery and normal to feel terrible right afterwards. It will get better fast and all be worth it!
Good luck with your surgery and hang in there.
Linda
