Topic: RE: Do you look in the mirror and see yourself the same way as before?
I have the same problem. My husband keeps telling me I have changed so much. People comment me when they reconize me. It is like my brain knows it has to be true but my heart won't accept it. I think so of my problem, is I don't want to change my personality--I want to be the same minus the weight. I do have a before picture and look at it occasionally. I am working on a recent picture. My nutritionist said this would help. I even tried on my wedding dress last week on my 23 rd anniversary--still don't think of myself as smaller. I have heard it takes a year for the brain to catch up.

Topic: Changing Friends?
I was wondering if anyone else is going thru changes in friends? I have a friend I email regularly. His emails have always been fine. He doesn't know I had surgery. I told him I lost weight by working with a nutritionist. I am glad I did now. He was fine until he saw me in person and noticed my 110 lb weigh lost. He had put on some weight himself. Now I get these rude uncalled for messages when I ask questions or respond to his questions. I know he is jealous. I can lose his friendship if that is the way he is going to be. I have another friend who was my eating out buddy. She is not obese. We don't eat out as often as before and don't enjoy any dessert any longer. She is fine but is clinging on to me. I changed companies and now she wants to work where I do. She even sent the manager an email asking for a job. I don't know if it's me, but I am ready to leave her behind also. What is wrong with me? I have a few other friends who are true friends and I don't want to lose them. Why now at 6 months and 110 lbs post op do I feel the need to lose some friends. I want friends who can relate and respect me. How can I tell if I have changed--or they have? Have I become a snob? I am still overweight (215 lbs) will I change friends again when I get closer to my goal? I don't want my personality to change. I want the old person just minus the weight. Please help--I am really concerned.

Topic: Anyone else a SLOW loser like me????
Hi everybody! So far, I've only lost 66 pounds. All of you guys look like you are losing so much faster than myself. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy with my loss, but still a little worried that I won't ever reach goal. Anyone else with the same fears? Tam 294.5/228/140

Topic: Do you look in the mirror and see yourself the same way as before?
For some strange reason, when i look in the mirror i see myself the same way as I did when I was at my highest weight. I really cannot tell the difference. So far I had lost over 60 pounds and cant tell the difference. The only way to tell is my dress size. I went form a 26-28 to a size 18-20. That is a great amount of inches to loose....... Where did it all go? Why do I see myself as if I was still 26-28. It is quite amazing to know that there is more to you then just FAT! I have been overweight all my life and I never had a chance to feel thin, to feel looked at, as well as to just be comfortable with myself. Hopefully in a year, I will have the success that most of you are having!

This is the lowest I have seen myself since i was in high school. I really dont see much of a difference with my body, but other people do! I guess that would make up for the denial!

Isn't funny how you notice things now...like I was brushing my teeth a few weeks ago, and there was this bone on my wrist sticking out at me in the mirror! I know it's always been there...but I never noticed it before! Or how if I sit on something concrete...I can feel my pelvic bones. I have cheekbones....and my chest doesn't look quite as small as it did when I had a bigger stomach below it! I'm not thin yet by any means-size 22 at this point-but a hundred pounds makes such a difference. I was on a train last weekend, and I started to talk to this guy from New Zealand..he was not at all bad looking. Quite nice actually! And we actually flirted. Hahahaha! I'm actually within 20 pounds of what it says on my driver's license (last time they asked me my weight, I was 21. I'm almost 37 now). I actually had someone tell me I would need to get a new license before too long!!! WOW!!!

Topic: RE: To exercise or not to exercise...
I agree with Kristen....I might lose weight as fast without exercise, but I lose inches a LOT faster with it. My aunt, who had the surgery a year ago, didn't look as healthy at the same stage I'm at, partly because she didn't exercise. The skin sort hangs on her now, and she's kind of weak. The weirdest thing is, on a business trip last week, I actually chose to exercise instead of socialize. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that!!!! I was feeling kind of sluggish, and felt much better after I exercised. Endorphins are so cool!!

Topic: RE: Average weekly weight loss
It's kind of hard to calculate an average...some weeks, it may be nothing. For three weeks, the scale didn't budge. I was doing cardio several hours a week and weight training (2-3x/week), though, so in that time I lost 1 1/2 sizes. Eating more frequently does get to be a drag sometimes, but my nutritionist swears by it...especially since I started exercising. I eat 5 times a day, on average, and try to remember to use my food diary to make sure I'm getting enough protein, etc. Sometimes when I'm working, I'll go to a salad bar and get some good veggies, fruit, cheese and stuff. Then, I'll have some at lunchtime, eat some more in mid-afternoon, and if I still have more left and I'm going to the gym, I'll fini**** off on the train. (I also take my own salad dressing to work, since it's really hard to find good fat-free dressings on salad bars.) I do the same with other foods...I do think it helps keep my energy up, and with the diary I can make sure I get some variety. (I do have chocolate once in awhile...but I can actually stop after a few bites & am satisfied!) Size-wise, I seem to be dropping about 1 size a month... Barbara

Topic: RE: Does anyone drink WINE? Or any alcohol?
I've had some alcohol-talk about a cheap drunk!!! My aunt was drinking wine quite a bit for awhile there, much like you described. She cut back, though, after she realized she was drinking too much. You're not the only one! I figure it's like most other things we put in our mouths....a little is fine, too much is too much!

Topic: RE: Has anyone's weight loss maintained itself over 1 month?
I had about a three week period where I didn't lose any weight either. Like a couple of other people, I was losing inches, though. A dress size and a half! Exercise was what seemed to pull me out of it....in addition to aerobic activity, I started weight training....it really seemed to help. I've been traveling for work the past few weeks-it was nice to have a reprieve from the scale. It's hard sometimes not to get hung up on the number the scale is telling you! As long as you are feeling good...hang in there and it'll start to drop soon! Barbara
