Topic: 8 months post-op and having firtst complications
Hello to everyone, I just wanted to check in with those that have Jan 03' surgery dates. Everything weight loss-wise is fine. I've lost 160 lbs. and 18 inches around the waist. I lost weight very fast in the begining and it has slowed down since. I lost 100 in the first 3 months and 50 in the next 3 months, then only 10 in 2 months since then.
My only complications so far has been I got backed up, if you know what I mean, and pushed too hard, then did some damage back there. I ripped the inner part of my rectum and they had to do surgery to fix it. It didn't go well and I had futher complications after that, my bowels locked up and I got really backed up to the point that nothing would move at all. After they got that cleared out, they put me back on a liqiud diet for 3 days. You don't realize how much you miss food. after getting back to eatting a somewhat normal meal plan from what we started out with in January.
I go to the doctor today, hopefully he will put me back on soft foods. We will have to see. Sorry about talking about a odd subject, but I just wanted you know so that you could be advised to watch out for any complications that can come up this late in our trip to great weight loss success.
I hope to hear from some other Jan 03' AMOS Family members to let me know how they are doing as well. Thank you for your time. Ralph

Topic: RE: How is everyone doing these days?
I am doing great! I had my surgery 1/28/03 and have lost 92 lbs down from 257 to 165 and wear size 10 down from 24. This has been quite an emotional roller coaster! I love the new attention from everyone, but sometimes it is too much? My husband follows me around like a little puppy in heat..haha. Thos that used to be what I thought were friends turn out to be talking bad about me behind my back...that really hurts. I am still the same person with just less FAT. My food intake is good and I have slipped a little on my exercise program. I need to just find the time and do it!!!! I would do this again in a heartbeat...I never thought I would be wearing a size 10 or even be under 200 pounds and here I am. I still sometimes look in the mirror and still see that same 257 pound woman?
PS as far as plastic surgery goes they make you wait because you can continue to lose weight for 18 months and you wouldnt want to have a tummy tuck and lose more weight and then have saggy skin would ya? I personally just want my boobs to be where they are suppose to be again!!!!
Topic: RE: 7 months out..ugh
Hi everyone, I had my surgery 1/28/03 and I have been stuck at 89.6 lbs for a month now. I wass getting really frustrated until I stepped on the scale yesterday and I went down 2 more pounds and this morning 1 more. I hiope this means this plateau is over?! I can say eat more protein, I think that is what I have been doing and it is helping. I work for a surgeon that does the WLS and we tell all of our patients to eat PROTEIN!!!! Good luck to all! Topic: RE: Losing the Amour...
I know exactly how you feel..I had my surgery on Jan 10 2003, and im down 105 pounds...but when i look in the mirror I see the same fat person who was there before..and sometimes I wish my husband would reassure me more of how I look..sometimes I feel like I have to drag it out of him....I do feel alot better and seem to becoming a better person with the way I feel about myself...so hang in there kid..we are ALL in this together....Big Hugs.
Topic: Losing the Amour...
I have been dealing with what seems to be the hardest part of all the WLS stuff. The emotional things... I had surgery on Jan. 15th and have lost 102 lb! That feels wonderful but I have been struggling with wanting attention and then what to do when I get it. People make comments about how "skinny" I am or that I'm "disappearring" and it feels like they might as well have kicked me in the stomach. I don't want to feels less powerful or less protected. It is an amour issue...I was more confident with a 100 lbs of fat around me. I'm driving my partner crazy with the "do I look good baby?" I have this constant need for reassurance. Hopefully this will pass too! I wish you all the best and thanks for your post. -Roxana
