Dr. Steven Reyes, Psychologist & Bariatric Connect Emcee

Steven Reyes, EdD, has specialized in the field of bariatric psychology since 2005. Since then, he has worked with thousands of people striving to achieve and maintain their long-term health. He is affiliated with multiple Centers of Excellence (COE) bariatric programs in southern California, where he conducts pre-surgery psychological assessments and facilitates pre-surgery educational classes. For two decades, hospitals have used his pre-surgery curriculum to prepare their patients for their weight loss surgery journey. He speaks regularly on the local weight loss support group circuit and coaches patients from all over the country, helping them deal with issues they face after weight loss.

Entertaining negative thinking contributes to compromised decision-making and, more than likely, a pattern of self-neglect. Practice positive self-talk; if you don’t reinforce you’re worth it, you’re less likely to sustain it (health). - Dr. Steve on Self-Talk

“Dr. Steve” is best known for his compassionate coaching and therapeutic approach in helping others with their psychological and physical well-being. With a unique background in marketing, health sciences, and addiction, he offers a keen understanding of countering the influences that can sabotage lasting change. Dr. Steve’s doctoral research included a phenomenological study of the post-surgical adjustment issues with weight loss surgery patients who were between one and two years post-op.

As an active member of the weight loss surgery community, he is passionately committed to helping people implement and maintain their own long-term behavioral change strategy. Whether helping someone one-on-one or in a group setting, his zest for health and life are evident in his interactions with others.

Dr. Steven Reyes is a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), the American Psychological Association (APA), and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). He is licensed in multiple states and maintains a private coaching/therapy practice in Southern California (SoCal).

WORKSHOP - Your Mind is Not Your Mirror: Tools for a Healthy Body Image

Dr. Steven Reyes

Have you ever questioned what your eyes see in relation to your body? Is the image in the mirror the body of your past or the one now? Are you critical of your body but want to feel better about it? Do you struggle to maintain a positive body image through weight loss? How you answer these questions says a lot about your body image attitude. And as with many people, the lenses in which you view yourself may need some adjusting.

This informative workshop will dive into the origins of personal bias and self-criticalness as it pertains to body image and the importance of establishing body image acceptance.
