Andrea Nakayama, Functional Medicine Nutritionist

After losing her young husband to a brain tumor in 2002, Andrea Nakayama discovered a passion for using food as personalized medicine. This profound experience inspired her to become a Functional Medicine Nutritionist, educator, author, speaker, and award-winning podcast host.

Andrea is regularly consulted as the nutrition expert for the most challenging clinical cases worldwide. She trains nearly four thousand practitioners each year in her methodologies. As the host of the 15-Minute Matrix Podcast and the founder and former CEO of Functional Nutrition Alliance, Andrea draws on systems biology, mental models, root cause methodology, and therapeutic partnership to offer long-awaited solutions for the rapidly growing chronic illness epidemic.

“Functional Nutrition is the future of healthcare, not because it’s new or fancy, but because it brings us back to the foundation of what healthcare should be about — the needs of the patient.” - Andrea Nakayama

Andrea Nakayam is celebrated as a leader in the field of Functional Nutrition because of her unique ability to teach and inspire practitioners and patients alike. Andrea’s approach combines art and science, empathy and physiology, intuition and problem solving into a system that truly helps people get to the root causes of their illnesses, create a path towards wellness, and find their way back to life. She firmly believes that the science and tools of Functional Nutrition should be shared and used by anyone who needs them.

“I am fascinated by the human potential for healing. In my practice, I have seen suffering and frustration and fear of the unknown transform into the kind of personal power that propels people to take action and push for the best solutions.” - Andrea Nakayama

In everything she does, Andrea brings her keen investigative prowess, vast knowledge of physiology, deep respect for each individual, and a genuine passion and love for her work. Outside of her efforts at the Functional Nutrition Alliance, Andrea has been featured in Oprah’s O Magazine and Martha Stewart’s Whole Living, has made contributions to Experience Life Magazine, and has presented at numerous online conferences and summits. She was also a co-producer of the Hashimoto’s Institute Summit and practitioner training program and regularly writes patient-centered content on her personal website: andreanakayama.com.
