ObesityHelp Fashion Shows Create Memories of a Lifetime!
As we prepare for the OH2023 Fashion Show, our team has been reminiscing about past fashion shows we have hosted. Our team agrees that the Fashion Show is one of our favorite parts of the conference. We love:
- Seeing you walking with pride and sharing your story
- Hearing the OH family audience cheering you on
- Seeing the afterglow of each of you as you leave the stage
- Hearing from Attendees, Sponsors, Speakers, and Exhibitors about how inspiring the show is
- Witnessing the awe-inspiring moments that have happened on stage
One unforgettable story is that of Karen Mahoney, who underwent an astonishing transformation. In 2017, Karen, once bed-bound, graced the runway with the assistance of an escort. But in 2018, she returned and triumphantly walked down the runway entirely on her own! Her unwavering determination continues to inspire countless others.
Ultimately, me walking unassisted was HUGE! Even at the very last moment, I wasn’t sure if I had it in me to do it, but I knew that I had so much support and love behind me, which gave me the push to walk!
Karen Mahoney
Another remarkable moment unfolded in 2018 when Victoria Zavala walked the runway while eight months pregnant. In 2019, she returned, proudly striding down the runway with a twin on each arm. It was such an adorable moment to see her little ones matching her; we are honored that she shared her precious family with us. Her fashion show walk also serves as an inspiration for those exploring pregnancy after bariatric surgery!
Working with our Team to pull our conference together has been one of the best experiences of my life. The uplifting and heartwarming stories we hear from attendees are impressed upon my heart. The fashion show is a place where people can really step out of their comfort zones and celebrate their success, and healthier lifestyles. I’m grateful for everyone involved!

Being part of the fashion show had many different effects on me. It was "dream like", meaning it felt so unreal to think that I was in a fashion show. It was exhilarating because of the nerves and adrenaline, and that I was surrounded by so many wonderful people with such great stories to tell about their journeys. Having a chance to calm the nerves and emotions of the ladies around me helped me with my own nerves. That made me feel part of the same community. Knowing that this is a life-changing journey and we are not an island that we need a support system to help us with the challenges to get us through!

The OH2019 Conference was awesome! It was my first time attending and I definitely hope to make it to next year's event.
