June Goal Of The Month: Stay Hydrated!

Staying hydrated is essential to maintaining good health but it’s not always easy to get our recommended daily intake of water in (8 glasses) and it can be especially challenging after you have had weight loss surgery.  With summer just around the corner, the hottest days of the year are in our midst and we need to be mindful to stay hydrated.

June Goal Of The Month: Stay Hydrated!

Tips for staying hydrated include:

1.  Keep a water bottle with you at all times.
2.  Drink a glass of water at the beginning of your day and at the end of the day
3.  Drink a glass of water after you use the restroom.
4.  Eat several servings of fresh fruits and vegetables daily-They contain lot's of water!
5.  If your bored with plain old water, try adding a slice of lemon or lime or a fruit of your choice.  Some prefer a sprig of mint or other herbs. Or just to mix it up a bit, add fruit flavored ice cubes to your water.
6. When you think you are hungry, drink a glass of water. Sometimes what we think are hunger signals are actually thirst signals.
7. Track your water intake by using the ObesityHelp Health Tracker located in the OH toolbar.

Here are 10 symptoms of dehydration to watch out for:

  1. Headache
  2. Dry mouth
  3. Unable to produce tears when crying
  4. Feeling lightheaded or dizzy
  5. Dark and/or infrequent urine
  6. Excessive thirst
  7. Fatigue
  8. Confusion
  9. Muscle weakness or cramping
  10. Sunken eyes
