I am the same person on the inside but physically I am not the same at all. I no longer ache from carrying another person around on my back. I am beyond grateful for this life changing surgery and the amazing job Dr. Hodges did in taking care of me with his skilled hands.
I was not a typical heavy person. I had no co-morbidities, no extreme pain and no reason in my mind to have WLS. It seemed selfish to put myself at risk having surgery when I had never had any sort of procedures before. The thing that really convinced me was not the scale maxing out over 350 or my doc saying I should consider it for my future but in one word the FEAR that had crept into life. FEAR! Always the fear of "fitting".
Fear of stairs, fear of chairs breaking, fear of plane rides, fear of seat belts in cars, fear of falling on ice..falling anywhere really. Just paralysis everywhere I turned. I would almost break down when it was snowy or heaven forbid icy. I would always volunteer my car in fear of my friend's seatbelts not fitting. I would have bruises all over my side from ramming my body into the armrest on plane rides to make more room for the person next to me. It was a prison..a prison of fear. So I did it. I had RNY.
After losing 161 pounds I still have moments where I think, "will I fit, will I break it, will I fall?" But I do and I won't and I don't! I fit! I really really fit!
