Joyce and Daniel Tucker live in the Pacific Northwest and neither are strangers to obesity. Both say they have been obese since childhood, and both admit they have yo-yo dieted for years. Early in 2011, Joyce, a homemaker who suffers from edema and weight-related type 2 diabetes, tipped the scales at over 300 pounds. Daniel, a retired communications company worker, weighed more than 350 pounds. Both suffered from gastroesophageal reflux disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and severe obstructive sleep apnea. Both took multiple prescription drugs to deal with their weight-related problems, and both had come to the realization that they were going to die much too early unless they got real help.
Enter Dr. Robert Michaelson and the staff at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery in Everett, Washington. After attending a local NWWLS informational seminar, and receiving word that their insurance carrier would cover the costs, both Joyce and Daniel opted to have lap-band surgery. Now, a year later, both are singing the praises of the results.
“Since the surgery I haven’t looked back,” says Joyce. “I’m down over 140 pounds and I have the energy of a 20-year-old. Many of my medical conditions have resolved or are drastically improved with my weight loss. My high blood pressure and edema are gone, high cholesterol is gone, apnea is gone, back and joint pain is almost gone. So far, I’ve been able to reduce my type 2 diabetes medications by 95 percent! I should have had this surgery done years ago! The doctors and staff at NWWLS are the best! Everyone is very supportive in every respect. I love that place!”
Daniel has lost over 130 pounds. “Before, I was a couch potato growing heavier by the minute. Now, I’m much more active and full of energy. I’ve started working on several projects here at home that I would never have attempted in the past. I still take one prescription to help with my cholesterol levels, but the rest of the medications are all gone. Joyce and I have found a new life. We truly believe that this process has improved our overall health and added to our longevity. Dr. Michaelson and his staff at Northwest Weight Loss Surgery have saved our lives.”
