Fit At Any Weight or Age
October 11, 2023Fit At Any Weight or Age: Exercise always seemed unimportant to me, like – why go to all that trouble, right? Then I got hit by a car and was told that if I didn’t go to physical therapy and continue the therapy exercises for many months, I’d not only walk with a distinct limp, but eventually I’d gain more weight, have increased blood pressure, my spine would be severely bent, and I’d have chronic pain and a shortened life. Well guess what – I did what the doctors told me to do.
Weight has gone a little up, a little down, so years later I still work at it and, you know what - I feel great.
I’ve always loved food and found it not only a private escape, but it was the one thing about my life that made me happy. Even with doing the recovery therapy exercises, I still put on weight because of my impulse eating. Lots of weight, and before I knew it, my cholesterol was dangerously high, as was my blood pressure. I realized I needed some continued professional training after my medical PT sessions ran out. I needed to workout correctly and safely and I needed to learn what foods I should limit, plus I needed to learn how to develop discipline …of which I had little. I found a trainer / nutritionist specialized in wellness for my age & weight. I learned to exercise the right way for me. Having a “guide” took the pressure off of me because she eased me through the simple movements. We talked about food and I learned simple tips.
Fit At Any Weight or Age
I also began to become accountable to myself. Amazingly, before long, the process started to be fun because I was feeling so good! It didn’t happen overnight, but I lost weight and felt more in control of my eating - my health improved tremendously.
So many of us feel this way about exercising once we hit the obese line. The time we need a little help the most, it seems we want it the least. I only learned this because the diagnosis after my accident was so grim. Probably the most important lesson I learned was that one doesn’t have to be skinny to be healthy. It is beautiful to have “curves” as long as you’re healthy (and happy) inside that voluptuous figure.
Maybe you want to undergo weight loss surgery and your doctor says you must first lose 50 lbs., or maybe you’ve had the surgery and are slipping back into bad eating habits and starting to regain the weight. Now’s the time to take control of your own life with a little professional guidance.
Certified Personal Trainers
Everywhere there are Certified Personal Weight Control Trainers or specialized classes for the obese, it just takes a little looking & learning. ObesityHelp might be able to give you a start in the right direction. The most important thing is that you begin the journey toward being your best you, and finding joy, happiness, and a sense of accomplishment in your own life. We all deserve that, no matter what our size or age.
It’s never too late to take the first step. Like me, you may be facing an unhealthy diagnosis for your future, or you’re tired of just existing day after day in the same rut – give yourself a gift. Give guided exercise with a professional a try and see how you can be fit at any weight or age. You do deserve it!
