Boston and Texas Tragedies: How You Can Help

In the aftermath of the Boston and Texas tragedies numerous charities have been established to help the victims and their loved ones financially, psychologically, and physically.  Here's a list of ways you can support those affected by these two tragic events:

The One Fund Boston, Inc has been formed to help people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15, 2013. The fund was established by Boston’s Mayor Tom Menino and Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick.  The fund has received a $1 million dollar commitment from John Hancock which has had headquarters in Boston for over 150 years.  Numerous other business have contributed as well.

The New England Pat­riots Charitable Foundation is collecting donations for the Boston victims.  They posted the following message:

"Our thoughts are with the victims of Monday’s tragedy in Boston. On April 16, the Kraft Family announced $100,000 in matching donations to support Boston Marathon victim recovery. If you are making a donation in response to Monday’s tragedy, please note “Boston Marathon” in the message field below. All donations and matching funds will be earmarked for The One Fund. Thank you for your support."

The Richard Family Fund has been formed to help the family of Martin Richard who was killed in the Boston explosions.  The 8-year-old had just returned from hugging his father at the finish line when he was fatally injured.  His mother and sister were also injured and remain hospitalized at this time. The Salem Five Charitable Foundation has set up a fund for the Richard family and the Woolfenden family.  The mother of the Woolfendedn family was running the marathon when her husband and son were injured. You can donate at any Salem Five bank location or by mail at Salem Five, Attn: Richard Family Fund or Woolfenden Family Fund, 210 Essex St., Salem, MA 01970.

The Vince Wilfork Foundation was founded with the goal of supporting diabetes research, awareness, and prevention.  The foundation will direct all donations through the end of April to help the bombing victims.  You can text VINCE to 50555 to donate $10 to support their efforts or donate here.

The Salvation Army is supporting survivors and first responders in both Boston and Texas by deploying mobilized support teams and Emergency Disaster Canteens.

The Red Cross is accepting blood donations and disaster relief funds for those affected by the Boston and Texas tragedies.
