My struggles with obesity began within the last 10 years. I noticed as I got older, and my metabolism got a little slower, so did my weight loss. I have always gone to the gym, thinking I was doing the right thing, but not realizing that my eating habits needed to change as well. I always thought (and it may sound ignorant, or I was just in denial because food equaled comfort to me) that if you worked out the weight will drop off and never come back, and I can eat whatever I wanted. Boy, was I wrong!
I decided to look into weight loss surgery because I initially just wanted to see what it was really about. Was it an easy way out as some say? I needed to educate myself and make an informed decision for ME. With my health declining and being diagnosed with Hypertension and was Pre-Diabetic, I was scared. I needed help. I found the Surgical Weight Control Center and went to the live seminar with Dr. Soong. Halfway through it, I knew not only was this the right decision, but he was the right doctor for me. He is very charismatic, down to earth, and without even knowing him just yet, he gave me a sense of ease and comfort. So, this was the beginning of my amazing journey to a new life!

My Surgery and Post-Op Life
The day of my surgery was very exciting. I knew my life would never be the same. With all of the requirements and education that I had completed leading up to this point has made me ready to move forward. All of the staff at Desert Springs Hospital were amazing. From pre-op to post-op, everything ran smoothly. Dr. Soong and Dr. Link (Anesthesiologist) came and talked to me before going into the OR. We went over the surgery again. Before I knew it, I was being wheeled into the OR.
I stayed overnight at the hospital, and they have a whole floor just dedicated to bariatric patients along with a team of nurses who ONLY work with bariatric patients. So, needless to say, they are very experienced. I cannot say enough about how amazing the team is there. I had no pain whatsoever. I was up and walking a few hours after surgery. I was able to go home the following day. From the first time, I was able to walk around the nurse’s station after surgery, and up until today, I have been exercising.
Special Milestone / Non-Scale victory
I am now at the gym five days a week lifting weights and doing cardio. This is my NEW life, and I am in love with it! I am healthy, happy, and I can honestly say that this surgery saved my life physically, spiritually, and emotionally. For the first time in my 50 years, I am truly happy with myself, and because of that, I now attract a whole new set of people around me. This has been nothing short of a blessing to me!
