Celebrating Dustin's Before & After VSG Journey!

I grew up in a house that rewarded accomplishments with food and I was taught to finish my plate. This tradition started me on a bad path with food and my eating habits that only got worse when I had to start dealing with real life issues. The next thing I knew, I was morbidly obese, sick, and couldn’t make any diet last. I never came to grips with what the actual problem was, that is until I had VSG weight loss surgery.

Thanks to having WLS, I finally understand that I am addicted to food. It is my drug of choice. Now that I can see that, with the help of my WLS tool, I can face those feelings and get a grip on them before they get a grip on me.

Every day is a battle, but I’m winning the war.

A Special Milestone

The biggest milestone I have passed (so far) has been getting below 200 pounds. I never had a scale growing up and never went to the doctor. The lowest weight I can actually remember seeing on a scale was 235. I know at some point I was under 200 pounds but I have no clue how old I was when I was there. Before WLS, I always thought that if I could get to 215 I would be healthy and happy. Now that I am at 185 with still 10-20 pounds left to go, I know how wrong I was.

How has ObesityHelp.com been a part of your journey?

I came across ObesityHelp when I was researching WLS. I am one of those people who have to know everything about something if I’m to do it. I was watching videos of the surgery online, reading testimonies and stories of others’ journeys. OH is a great community where I could find an answer to almost any question I had, and that was just using the search function. Once I became an “active” member, I saw that I was not alone and none of my issues were mine alone to deal with. It really helped me open up and see we all deal with the same crap, and can help each other work through it.
