I have been overweight since I was a child, and it is something I have struggled with all of my life. Coming from a family of obesity, food was our comfort. Being overweight was all that I knew about myself. I was the sad overweight girl who was always the one sitting out of fun activities because I was too big or my body just couldn't handle the activity.
My lowest moment in life, weighing in at a whopping 370lbs, I was forced to get off of a ride at an amusement park in front of hundreds of people because I couldn't fit on the ride. That was the most horrifying and embarrassing moment of my life.
Last year, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. With that diagnosis, I knew I HAD to do something for my health and my life. At the rate I was going with my declining health and limited quality of life, I was probably looking at death at a young age. With MANY failed attempts at dieting, I finally decided to have bariatric surgery.

I had my DS (Duodenal Switch) weight loss surgery procedure on January 28, 2015, and it has been the BEST decision I could've ever made! I am currently down 172lbs in one year, and I feel on top of the world! I am no longer on any diabetes medications and my sugar is in normal range! I can finally partake in things I have always wanted to do but couldn't prior to my DS surgery. One of the first things I've done is to ride roller coaster rides!
I am so thankful for the surgery because I get a second chance at a new and healthy life! It was by NO means an easy process pre-op OR post-op, but I would do it over and over again without question! I am finally living my life instead of watching it pass me by! So thankful for my new healthy life!
Only you can make the decision for yourself, but I can promise you, it is worth it! I LOVE MY DS!!
