5 Fun Dr. Sharma Facts!
As most of you know, Dr. Arya Sharma-a world-renowned thought leader on obesity prevention and management-will be the keynote speaker at the ObesityHelp National Conference this year and the OH team could not be more excited! Dr. Sharma is well known as the founder of the Canadian Obesity Network, for which he has raised over $10 Million and for being the developer of the Edmonton Obesity Staging System. As a most sought after lecturer, his comedic wit and in-depth knowledge about obesity has won him many awards but I bet you didn't know these 5 fun facts about the doctor:
- Dr. Sharma is fan of many different types of music and has been to over 129 concerts! Madonna, Lynard Skynard, Santana, and ZZ Top are just a few concerts he has been to! Full list here.
- Concerts he wishes he could have seen: Michael Jackson, Prince, Neil Young, Metallica, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Eagles, The Who, and Elton John…just to name a few!
- Dr. Sharma plays the electric guitar! He has a 1977 Gibson Les Paul and a 2006 60th Anniversary Edition Fender Stratocaster.
- When asked about a possible celebrity ambassador for obesity education, Dr. Sharma says he always hoped Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive would volunteer as a spokesperson. Bachman weighed 380 pounds when he had gastric bypass with the same Dr. that performed Carnie Wilson’s surgery. (Dr. Alan Wittgrove)
- Dr. Sharma witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989. “I was on the Berlin Wall the night it came down.” he says.
