4 Meaningful Ways To Celebrate Thanksgiving

Start your day with gratitude

You may not have everything you want in your life or prefer that things were different. We tend to put our attention on the things we don’t like. Switch it up this year and try swapping that mindset out to focus on the things you do have in your life. When you live with an attitude of gratitude, it can make a huge positive difference in your outlook. Try beginning your day and take a couple of minutes to think about three (or more) things in your life that you’re grateful for such as family, friends, work associates, job, opportunities, living a fuller life, and your healthy lifestyle.

Be kind

Kindness is a double win. It is a win for the person that you were kind to and a win for you because it makes you feel great about yourself. Give yourself a goal to pass along a kindness once a day. It doesn’t have to be anything huge. Let someone into a line of traffic ahead of you, open a door for someone, return a shopping cart, give someone a compliment that you genuinely feel, leave a positive comment on someone’s blog or social media post.

Celebrate Thanksgiving -Turn off and tune in

Turn off the computers and cell phones, ignore social media and tune in to the people you’re with for Thanksgiving Day. Connect with others you’re with face-to-face and heart-to-heart with conversation and laughter. Fill up with the family and friends you’re sharing Thanksgiving with instead of food.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving meal

Sure, Thanksgiving food choices can include your favorite aunt’s amazing desserts and decadent calorie-laden dishes. It can also just as easily include food choices that are healthy and keep you on track with your weight loss and maintenance of your healthy lifestyle. You’re eating small quantities of food so focus on the quality of your food choices.

Try the three-bite idea, if there is a dish that you just have to try, take a small portion and eat three small bites. You get to taste the dish, only eat a small amount of it, and after three bites of anything, you don’t get the same taste as you did with the first few bites. Savor and enjoy the new relationship you have with healthy food and eating in a way that you feel great about. Celebrate Thanksgiving!
