I have only just met Dr Pollard on Monday this week he seemed very pleasant and was very straight forward with his approach he was very freindly and tactfull.

Stephen is very supportive and understands clearly the issues experienced by anyone overweight. He treats you as an adult and talks to you on an equal basis which is a first experience for me when talking to medical people about my weight. Prior to the operation he explained fully what the operation entailed and provided me with literature on the process and likely post-operative experiences. However, I supplemented the information with many hours of reading American sites about the operation and attending the support group run in Leeds by one of his former patients. I had the operation in the BUPA hospital in Leeds and found the stay a reasonably pleasant experience. The other members of the medical team carefully explained their roles prior to the operation and I felt totally confident. All the staff have wonderful bedside manners. Stephen is an excellent surgeon.
One downside of the experience has been the limited after care provided by Stephen. One visit only. The support group does not fully provide the kind of aftercare I feel is essential with this type of operation. The group needs more structure and too much is left to chance. I have had to establish contact with others throughout the country to get some of the answers to what may work for me in terms of eating etc.
I found Mr. Pollard to be very supportive, forthcoming with lots of info, with a great sense of humour too. I was very nervous prior to meeting him but he soon put me at ease and explained everything very clearly and thoroughly. His secretary was also very friendly both over the phone and face to face. I have every confidence in him and can't wait for my surgery!
