Our Bariatric Support Group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 7-8 pm in the waiting room of Dr Provost’s office. Prior to the group, patients may meet for a walk around the Presbyterian Hospital of Denton Campus from 5:45-6:45 pm.
The support group will be co-facilitated by Chrystyna Senkel, PA-C (certified as an Attitudinal Healing Group Facilitator,) Skyler Griffin (Bariatric Nurse Coordinator.)
The group provides a safe place for patients to share and join together. This safety is maintained by following guidelines, which set the tone and boundaries for individual behavior within the group. The basic ideas are that we come to the group to listen, to be non-judgemental, to heal ourselves, to respect each persons’ process and inner guidance, and to not give advice or try to fix anyone else.
While challenge, conflict and crisis may be inevitable in life, we believe that what matters most are the attitudes, beliefs and values we adopt; the decision-making and communication skills we utilize; and the ability and willingness to make healthful, positive choices when such challenges arise. We have found that patients who develop and nurture their inner guidance will become emotionally resilient people who are better able to recognize the choice between reacting to situations with emotional eating and other destructive behaviors versus responding with thoughts and actions that bring peace and growth.
Attitudinal Healing offers a way to enable us to consciously choose to let go of fearful attitudes and embrace a loving and forgiving path. The goal is not simply to change behavior, but to re-train the most powerful instrument of change we possess, our own mind. Thus, Attitudinal Healing occurs when we realize that our own thoughts, feelings and attitudes about people and events are what cause us conflict and distress.
