My first impression of Dr. Z. was in 2006 when my partner was preparing for gastric bypass by Dr. Z. I met him during some of my partner’s testing and in the recovery room after surgery. He is truly a genuinely nice, compassionate person. His personality puts people at ease. He is always willing to explain a procedure or process.

As I began my journey, I sought out Dr. Z. He has only strengthened my opinion of him. He talks down to earth and gives you the facts straight up. I notice that he has good working relationships in his office with many talented folks.

He does seem to favor gastric bypass. However, he was willing to work with me and take me through scenarios to determine the best course of action for me. He listened and took my input seriously.

The Summa aftercare program is phenomenal. They really look at the whole picture in terms of weight loss. I have learned so much in this process. I so appreciated the exercise assessment. It got me started down the right path. The ½ day pre-surgery homecare session was great. All along the way, the staff and Dr. Z. make sure you are prepared for the surgery and help you be a success after.

I guess the only negative comment that I can make is the fact that he is extremely busy. Appointments are not always scheduled conveniently, and it is hard to reschedule them. I realize the center is growing. I think he is going through growing pains. I have noticed several new staff members that should make things go a little more smoothly.

I want to start by saying that Dr. Dan & his staff have changed my life. I had Lap-Band surgery 2/29/08 & have lost 60lbs. I am feeling great & I owe it all the the love & support I get from Dr. Dan & his office staff. They are me cheerleaders! My first impression of Dr. Dan was that he was soft spoken & kind. He is a good listener & never seems in a hurry no matter how busy he is. He is intelligent. He is patient. His staff is always friendly & considerate. I have become close with a lot of them. They are like my extended family! The Summa bariatric center has an extensive after care program that includes monthly visits with both the doctor & Robyn the dietician. They also have support groups available. They have a nurse & a nurse practitioner you can reach by phone for any questions during office hours. I have called them & gotten help and advice many times. There is always been someone to answer my questions. rnrnrn

Dr. Dan is a wonderful surgeon. He has an excellent bed-side manner and every time I see him he puts me at ease about the process and my chances for success. He is very thorough in his explanations of the process and he carefully outlined all the risks of the surgery. He took the time to make sure that I was comfortable and gave me ample time to ask questions and address any concerns that I had. Overall I would say that my experience with the Summa Bariatric Center was excellent and I would highly recommend the center to anyone who is seeking to have the procedure done.

When I first met Dr. Dan in Feb. 2009 I immediately felt comfortable with him. Not only was he professional but very compassionate. The next 10 months was spent going through various test...i.e. sleep study, cardiology work-up, EGD, psychological counselling, etc. Sometimes it seemed like it was never-ending. However, I was impressed that Dr. Dan wanted to make sure that my health came first, not just another surgery. rnrnRNY surgery was on Dec. 15, 2009, and went home on Dec. 16. Small setback on Dec. 19 which was handled very efficiently. I am well on my way to \"Reclaim My Life\". My first impression of Dr. Dan was neutral. Over time, I began to feel more comfortable as he seemed to answer my questions thoroughly and honestly. It is certainly a plus that I am a nurse at a hospital that has a Bariatric program that is highly respected by many and I had a choice of a couple surgeons. Each time I encountered Dr. Dan, he and his staff seemed genuinely concerned for my well being and wanted me to succeed. The program here at Akron City Hospital, in my opinion, is very thorough. They prepared me for every step of this life-long journey. Post-operatively I had support groups and a staff psychologist, nutritionist, and much more at my disposal. Even though the staff educates you thoroughly, I can't emphasize how much the patient needs to research and educate themselves in other ways too...such as places like this website. Dr. Dan seems to truly believe in the program and how it can help improve the patient's life...and all done without making me feel judged. Dr. Dan's surgical competence and bedside manner are both great in my opinion. Thank you Dr. Dan and Staff!

Dr. Dan is the man . . . kinda says it all!

I came to Akron City (Summa) as an emergency patient on Oct. 22, 2009 after passing out at home twice early that morning. Long story short, my band had slipped (Dr. Dan did NOT do my original surgery, nor was it done at Akron Summa) along with numerous other complications. The Bariatric Team at Akron Summa is beyond what you would think a medical team should be. They are kind, incredibly professional, caring, knowledgeable, they are the complete package. Even though I was not Dr. Dan's "patient", I have never had anyone go to bat for me with the insurance company and the original surgeon to keep me at Akron Summa for my surgery - I believe, because of all the serious problems I had, that Dr. Dan and his team saved my life and I am eternally grateful!

I highly recommend Dr. Dan, Dr. Z and their entire staff, you won't find any better!

Dr. Dan is WONDERFUL! I have had the most positive experience and have no regrets having weight loss surgery. Dr. Dan and his staff are very caring, encouraging, and truly have your best interest in mind. They communicate clearly and make themselves available if questions arise outside of your scheduled office appointment. The aftercare program is excellent - Support groups, nutrition counseling, etc. I highly recommend Dr. Dan and Akron City Hospital. I have lost 118 pounds and feel fantastic.

Dr. Dan was wonderful!! He has a wonderful staff and a great aftercare program. He made me feel very comfortable and even sent me flowers in the hospital!!! Not too many doctors do that!! I would recommend him to my family or anyone else! Great bedside manner and I had no complications. He is the best!I was so nervous and I had my doubts. He made me feel very much at ease and he did a great job. He works very hard to treat everyone as an individual and tend to everyone's needs. There is no other doctor I would trust more than him. Thank you Dr. Dan!!!

I'm writing this review on the eve of my 1 year post op anniversary. I had a Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass on Dec. 16th 2008 performed by Dr. Adrian Dan at SUMMA Health System in Akron, OH. I'm 5'2\" and I weighed over 250 lbs. I have lost 80 lbs and am still working on my goal of losing 20 more lbs. I found Dr. Dan to be very personable with an excellent bedside manner. I was very impressed with his knowledge and down to earth manner. He was honest and upfront about my health and yet optimistic that he and SUMMA'S Bariatric Program could help me. The teaching process began on Day 1. The risks of surgery and the level of commitment required on my part were made very clear as was my prognosis if I continued on the path I was on. For the first time I didn't feel alone in my struggle. I had a team of confident, caring and knowledgeable professionals behind me. The importance of following their instructions before AND after surgery AND for the rest of my life were stressed over and over again. Dr. Dan, the office staff and everyone at SUMMA including the hospital staff were so supportive and helpful. Everything went according to plan. Nothing was left to chance. I finally feel like I am living again instead of just existing. My only regret is that I didn't have the surgery done sooner. Dr. Dan, if you're reading this....Thank you! Thank you so much!
