My Surgeon was very professional. He was up-front and very knowledgeable. The office staff was very organized and friendly.

he kept me waiting for an hour and twenty minutes in an exam room.
he was very thorough with his explanation.
office staff was really nice but not familiar with auxilliary office.
He seemed bored with the information and stated that he has repeated it over and over.
No one has mentioned a structured aftercare to me since I finished my nutrition classes. I need to call the administrator of the OSU program and find out about it. They are not good at telling you what to do next. I have had to push them often to get next step.
These are my personal opinions and I hope that they will improve. I am not really a negative person but I do expect assistance and direction.

There was only one complaint I would lodge and that is against the anesthetist. He was one of the most uncaring hurtful people have ever met.

The nursing staff on floor ten both Rhodes Hall and Dodd Hall were excellent very caring and accomodating. But I am still glad to be home.

Most of the nursing staff don't give a damn about how you feel. You are just bothering them when you need something. I found this mostly on the night shift. Usually the day shift staff was GREAT!! I was in pain and very weepy. This was translated into you need to calm down this is just how it is. Well I was put on the regular surgery floor not the WLS floor.

Very small rooms that were too hot and stuffy. Only once did I not get my pain meds on time, that was during a shift change and I got loud about it. Otherwise, I was well taken care of and the nurses were very good. One was kind enough to cut an inch and a half off the tops of my footies because they were too tight. Very observant of him! It seemed like visitors were allowed to be there whenever. I had no problem with that. One major thing that I want to say is that I do not feel like I got adequate diet instructions when I went home. They gave me 2 booklets from Inamed, but the info seemed so broad. It turns out that I was supposed to get diet paperwork when I left, but no one gave them to me. At my 2-week follow-up appt., I mentioned this disservice and the doctor basically blew it off. It IS important, so find out before surgery exactly what you should be eating the first week, and the second week. (every doctor advises differently)

The nurses where very understaffed. You could press the call button and not see anyone for 30 minutes. I do not think they where very imformed on gastric bypass issues. Day nursers were better than the night nurses.

My first impression of Dr. Needleman was that he is a very down to earth man and does NOT have the typical doctor mentality or ego. He is very east to talk to and is extremely generous with his time during an appointment. His secretary, Suzy, is a great help! She is very friendly and eager to help in what ever wat she can! I can't think of anything I didn't like about Dr. Needleman or Suzy!! Dr. Needleman does have a structured aftercare program. That is one reason I chose the program at OSU. They require you to commit to several appointments after the surgery! I would rate Dr. Needleman AND the program at Ohio State as your best choice for healthcare, surgery, aftercare AND support before and after surgery! Dr. Needleman does the surgery lap and that is one big plus for a quick recovery! He is a great choice!! I HIGHLY recommend him!! As of this date I really don't have anything negative to say about him.

I enjoyed talking to Dr. Needleman. He made me feel very comfortable and he answered all the questions I had before I left. He took his time with me and I did not feel rushed. I would recommend him to anyone interested in this surgery.

Nursing shortages are prevalent everywhere, but I received great care from most with whom I came in contact. I thought that if I were to give a letter grade to OSU Med Ctr, I would give it an overall A-/B+.
