My only regret was not doing this sooner.... The process was simple. I met Dr. Sommer, he went over my options (different types of weight loss surgery), Ruthie handled getting insurance approval (I got approved on first try!!!, I read about a lot of nightmares from others on this site), I scheduled all my consultations (Psych, Nutritionist, Cardiologist, Pulmonary, etc...) Surgery was painless and no complications. The team helps you every step of the way, and they know you by name. I walk in the door and Ruthie knows me by name, feels like im going to friends place. I love there "In and out" approach you get all the time you need/want, but there's never a wait beyond a few mins when I go. My only recommendation is stick with the program and post surgery see a therapist to help with food addiction to ensure success.

My name is Christopher LoGiudice and Dr. Sommer performed a Sleeve Gastrectomy on me on June 11th of this year. I cannot say enough good things about him and his staff. This man instills confidence!!He makes you WANT to succeed!! He has surrounded himself with true pros...from Ruthie (who basically runs the entire office in Cortland Manor single handedly) right on down to the nurses assistants in the hospital, who carry themselves like seasoned pros. I was truly blown away by the efficiency of treatment which I received, and the ongoing effort and empathy I am still getting. A couple years back I went to another facility in hopes of getting surgery, but at that place you don't get to meet the Dr. until AFTER you have completed the list of prerequisites. It wore me out...I got burnt out on endless repetitive visits where nothing was really getting done. With NYBG I attended 1 online seminar, made an appointment, and then met Dr. Sommer immediately, and THAT has made all the difference for me. I completed my prerequisites in a month because after meeting him I had real hope for the first time in a very long time. Now..at 49 years of age I have lost 50 pounds in 40 days and I eat like a champion. I cannot wait to see where I am at a year from now. :)

Dr Eric Sommer performed a gastric sleeve on me on May 28, 2014. It's now June 11th and I've lost 27 pounds so far and am no longer on insulin or diabetic. My blood sugars have returned to normal and I'm on much less medication than prior to surgery. In my opinion, Dr Eric Sommer is a lifesaver. He legitimately cares for his patients and should be commended for the work he's done. I highly recommend Dr Eric Sommer if you're obese or struggling with diabetes or other life-threatening illness.

I am feeling absolutely amazing since I had my sleeve procedure with Dr. Sommer about 6 weeks ago! I have lost about 45lbs so far and am able to do things now that I was not able to before without getting winded! The office manager Ruthie is absolutely amazing and made sure all the paperwork was done when it had to be done and constantly deals with all my nagging questions with a smile! I would (and have) recommend this office to everyone I know!!!!

I am feeling great since I had the sleeve procedure about 10 weeks ago. It was the best decision I ever made. I lost a total of about 40 lbs since and the best part is that my blood glucose levels are normal and I don't need the meds and other any more. Ruthie the office assistant is the best you would meet. I recently had surgery with Dr. Sommer and was very impressed from start to finish with the quality of care I received from the Dr. and also from Ruthie. I would highly recommend this office to someone who is interested in this procedure.

Dr Sommer is great doctor, he was so patient answering ALL my questions. From start to finish every step of the process was laid out for me and there were no surprises. I had my surgery was on Jan 22nd and I am down 25 pounds. I am so thankful that I found New York Bariatric Group!

Dr Sommer is wonderful.He listens,answered all my questions in a way anyone could understand. My surgery was in October,and since then I have lost 30+ pounds. It has been everything he said was going to be,no surprises. Ruthie in the office is the sweetest, it's a pleasure to there. No dread of doctors office/visit. I've had my initial consultation with Dr. Sommer and found him to be pleasant, kind, willing to answer all my questions. Very open to my veganism and inclination to eat as organic as I can, he even suggested a brand of protein powder he likes that I might want to check out. I would recommend him, especially to those like myself who often get hassled by mainstream medical folks when they express a hope for minimal medical intervention, as few drugs as possible and no animal products in their diet. UPDATE: I've now had my surgery with Dr. Sommer and could not possibly be more pleased. He is congenial, reassuring and patient. The office runs on schedule, you are not sitting there waiting an hour past your appointmen time. The assistants, Ruthie and Carleen are as friendly, supportive and helpful as the doctor himself. I am thrilled with how my recovery has gone so far. Had my one week post-op appointment and he was so encouraging I had to hug him before I left. If you're tired of folks who only tell you how they want things done and don't listen to your questions or opinions Dr. Sommer is the surgeon you want to see. I feel fantastic, I had great care at Hudson Valley Hospital where he performed the procedure, received calls checking on me after discharge and am already watching the scale go down.
