Ravindra Mailapur Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.

Dr. Mailapur is easy to talk to and I liked him immediately. He tells you like it is and what he expects from the first visit. He is very personable and has a great bedside manner. Jessica, his nurse has been great and is very helpful throughout the whole process. Of all the doctors in the area, there is no one that can compare to Dr. Mailapur!

I have been overweight all my life it seems. I have been looking into the weight loss surgery for the eight to ten years. I would read any and everything I could about the process. I had checked into the surgery with a couple of other doctors. I didn't follow through due to the feeling that I got from the other doctors. I felt like it was only about the \"money\" and not the patient and making them comfortable. Not Dr. Mailapur. He was just the opposite of the other doctors. He did everything to make me feel comfortable. He listened to me and answered every question that I could possibly throw at him. He sat there and answering every question with patience. I feel like a new person since having my surgery in October. He is a special doctor. He treats each and every person that comes through his door as part of his family with open arms. I recommend him at each and every occassion. I would do this surgery again in a HEARTBEAT thanks to Dr. M. If it weren't for him I would still be waiting on my turn. Thank you Dr. M for being the specail person you are and making each and everyone of us feel special as well!!!!

I first met Dr. Mailapur when I went to his seminar about bariatric surgeries. I don't even remember how I found out about it, who told me about it or how I ended up there but somehow I was led to him. I do remember having such a nervous stomach for even thinking about going into the building. Once I got in there and started to hear him talk about the different procedures that nervous stomach went away and he had my total attention. From that very moment I knew he would be the doctor I would chose to do the surgery I always swore I would never have no matter what. Within 3 weeks I had my first consultation appointment with him and I really liked the fact that he took his time to talk with me and to explain the procedure in detail as well as answer any questions that I had. Over the course of the next several months I started the process of preparing for gastric bypass surgery. On the visit before my surgery he once again took the time to sit with me and explain everything and answer all of my questions and then he gave me a hug and re-assured me that everything would be ok. On the day of surgery Dr. Mailapur came into the pre-op room and talked with me and my husband and once again hugged me and shook my husband hand. I was no longer nervous about surgery because I knew I was in terrific hands. My surgery was successful with no problems after surgery. After surgery his care doesn't stop there, when i went back for my 2 week check-up he was still just as caring and took his time with me as he did before my sugery. Dr. Mailapur makes it a point to see that you are comfortable and his staff is very friendly and helpful in any way needed. I would highly recommend anyone that is considering this surgery to use Dr. Mailapur. He cares about his patients and wants to see them succeed by using the tool, not the solution, that he has given us. If there was a scale of 1 - 10 to rate our doctors and there staff I would definately give Dr. Mailapur and his staff a 10 +.

I had surgery on 7/27/2009. Dr. Mailapur was my surgeon and was fantastic. I have lost 60lbs since first meeting with him in June. He is caring and informative and an excellent surgeon. I joined our hospital's support group and to my suprise some folks don't have dr.'s as supportive or caring as Dr. Mailapur. I really feel like he listens and puts your best interests first. If you are in the Huntsville Area and considering surgery Dr. Mailapur is the best! I did my research and am so happy that I chose to do the surgery! No regrets!

1-Cared about his patient and their health. Wanting to do everything to make the surgery possible BUT telling you he can't do it alone, the patient has to do their part. He mannerism rn2-He's more compassionate, gives you confidence that your doing making a good decision for you, from the 1st time we met. rn3-Extremely Caring and very helpful. rn4. I have nothing but great things to say about Dr. Mailapur. I went to one of his seminars and made an appointment to see him in his office a week later. He has a wonderful staff of caring and supportive people. They navigated the appeal process for me and got me approved so quickly I was amazed. He made me feel at ease and I was very comfortable with the whole procedure. All risks were explained and all questions were answered. One day in the hospital and home, and back to work in a week. The support groups are recommended and very helpful. I am 3 1/2 weeks out and feeling great. I had a couple questions and called the office and was responded to quickly. Dr. Mailapur is fabulous, his staff is fabulous and if you use the tool he gives you with the surgery you will also be fabulous!!!

Dr. Mailapur first impressed me with his thoroughness and direct manner. He was highly recommended by my personal physician and is extremely competent. My preparation for surgery was unparalleled - there were no surprises. Not only was his seminar comprehensive but my pre-surgery preparation left no questions unanswered. At each subsequent meeting my confidence in him grew. His office staff were also very knowledgable and helpful. I was required to demonstrate my understanding of the process and its risks, and the dietary and exercise requirements before being accepted for surgery. This thoroughly prepared me to follow the requirements for complete recovery. Dr. Mailapur emphasized the life changing nature of this surgery and strongly recommended participation in a bariatric support group with a dietitian, a bariatric nurse, and other surgical patients. This has been very helpful and I look forward to group meetings. I know what to expect from his follow-up program and would enthusiastically recommend him to anyone seeking bariatric surgery.

Dr. Mailapur was a wonderful surgeon. He has wonderful bedside manner and will do everything that he can to help you get the surgery you need. He is very honest... he will encourage you when you need it but he will also tell you when you aren't doing something right. He doesn't sugar coat anything, which I needed. He was my surgeon as well as my mother's and he was wonderful with both of us. I had to have my gallbladder out exactly 6 months after my gastric bypass and he did a great job again. I called him complaining of pains in my abdomen and he immediately knew what it was and admitted me 30 minutes later, taking my gallbladder the next morning. I have recommended him to many of my overweight friends and several of them are planning to use him for their surgeries as well. WE LOVE YOU DR. M!

my first impression was that he was very straight foward and impressive. He hugged me when I left his office and told me he would take care of me. I liked him more each time I had to see him. He made me feel comfortable. The staff was wonderful and very knowledgeable. I liked everything, he is the best surgon. He truly cares about his patients. He encourages after care and support meetings a lot! He was straight forward from the begining about the risk of surgery. His surgical competence and bedside manners are outstanding.
