Dr. Quilici is a fine man and I am glad he performed my surgery. I am very confident he is a very good GBP surgeon! Everything went well. The timing was excellent.rnrnHis office staff is great. They are all very professional in there dealings with patients! rnrn I don't have much faith in \"the fax\", so sent records \"certified mail\" to make sure they received them.rnrnHis dietician \"Julie\" knows her stuff rnrnThe support group is Top Notch! Excellent leadership. Only problem, it is a 3 hour drive one way for me! rnrnrnDr. McVay and Dr. Tovar are great assistants to Dr. Q. They both checked on me a couple of times in the hospital to make sure things were going well.rnrnrnrn
I place Surgical Competence far above bedside manner, so I was very happy to hear that I was assigned to Dr. Quilici, he has a wonderful reputation. After our first meeting, I was so pleased to find that Dr. Quilici and his staff were very kind, supportive and profesional. I got the entire package!
The office is beautiful and clean and every question and concern I had was answered and i was treated with respect. The environment was very inspiring and supportive.
During the nutritional consult, I was in the room with another girl who was going through the exact procedure that I had chosen, we were close in age, so it was nice that I was able to make a friend who would know exactly what I was feeling.
I was also thrilled to find out that there had been a cancellation that very day, so I got my psych eval done that same afternoon!!
The aftercare program was explained to me and I was given a book of information on the subject...it was easy to read and understand and theres illustrations of the parts of the procedure. I still have another appointment to discuss in greater detail the pre-op regime. The staff made it very clear what I could expect during every phase of this surgery and recovery. I was given explanations of all the potential risks and felt that they placed a lot of importance on giving me all the information i needed to make an educated decision about surgery.
I am looking forward to the support groups led by the staff at Dr.Quilici's office, both pre and post-op, their genuine concern for my success makes me feel empowered and capable of handling the new life they are going to give me.
I woke up that morning nervous and didn't know what to expect from my first visit to Dr. Quilici's office, but the Doctor and his staff were just wonderful, and I'm very confident about having my surgery through their program.
Since the initial meeting, Blue Cross California Care HMO approved me for the surgery...I had a bit of difficulty getting a phone call returned from anyone at Dr. Q's office to find out what was going on and what appointments I needed to schedule... I called several times a week and left messages that were never returned. Finally I got an answer at the office that happened to be the right person who then scheduled me for a surgery date on the spot....she explained that the office had some staffing issues at that time. I am a little worried about trying to contact them again with questions or problems following the surgery...but am willing to have less-than ideal service in exchange for Dr. Quilici's surgical excellence....
UPDATE: 1/2/2009
17 mos. post-op now and I couldn't be any happier with my new life!! I am happy to report that I am below my initial goal weight and HEALTHY...my blood work is completely normal and my primary care physician is thrilled with the difference in my health improvement over the last year!
I had no complications or setbacks at all and would make the decision to have Dr.Q perform RNY gastric bypass surgery on me again in a heartbeat!
Ok, after I read some of these intries I was a little scared that Dr Q would be like Dr House and now that I have met him I am so excited to know that such a smart, kind man will be my surgeon. I did not have to wait that long this time. I have only been there once but after hearing \"bring a laptop\" I expected alot worse. Julie was very nice, and informative. I have gotten my final insurance approval but before I can get my surgery date I have to go see a cardiologist. I am hoping to have my surgery next month. Best of luck to all of you who are going through this. My surgery has been scheduled for 2/2/07. I went to Dr. Q's today and it went so quick. I didn't even have time to sit down from the moment I walked in. I feel very blessed to have Dr. Quilici and his staff doing my surgery. I am now almost 6 months post op and I have lost 103lbs!!!! I could never have imagined such success. I was truely blessed to get Dr. Q and his team for my surgery.
Let me start off by saying Dr. Quilici is an excellent surgeon. His skill and track record surpassed those of any other surgeon I researched; and I feel so blessed that I got through everything knowing so and virtually pain free.rnrnThe first consultation was about three months before surgery. I met with Julie, the nutritionist, first. She was very kind and explained the whole process in detail. After my meeting with her, I met with his associate Dr. McVay. She just asked me some basic medical questions and answered a few of mine. Then Dr. Quilici came in for a quick meeting. I didn't have many questions, and I was really nervous. But he was polite, yet he seemed very busy.rnrnThat is one thing. His office is very busy. Expect to wait a lot. And make sure you have your questions ready because they will have you in and out before you know it. That took a little getting used too. If you are looking for a surgeon that holds your hand through the process or sits with you and tries to get to know you, he is not that surgeon. He is all about his craft and believe me that's the most important thing. Besides, that is what Julie and the rest of his office staff is for. They are all helpful and concerned.rnrnAfter my consult, a few weeks later I met with Dr. Perry for my psych evaluation. She recommended that I start seeing a counselor to help me cope with issues I had at home, but she approved me for surgery. She only does this because after surgery, you have to develop a whole new set of coping mechanisms, no more eating. It's better to learn some coping skills or have someone to talk to before you get the surgery done.rnrnThen I waited. His office was a little slow in getting my paperwork into my insurance...or maybe I was just so anxious. I called Maureen, the schedular, a few times; I probably annoyed her. I even got the process started with my insurance since after a month of waiting nothing had been sent yet. I don't know if they always take that long to send paperwork to insurances. But once my insurance got what they needed they approved me in two days.rnrnSurgery date July 10, 2007, yeah! In between that, I attended his support group at St. Joe's. I loved it. Everyone is so friendly and open to questions. Those meetings are very inspiring. I highly recommend going if you are considering Dr. Quilici, yet are unsure about his bedside manner. Those people (and now me included) are living proof he is a bariatric surgery genius.rnrnAfter my surgery, I was in the hospital a little more than three days. Dr. Quilici stopped by about three times for a quick hello and to remind me to walk. Dr. McVay came by as well to check up on me. The bariatric coordinator also came by everyday; she is also a RNY patient. The hospital staff was great. Overall, my experience with Dr. Quilici and team has been great. rnrn
Thought he as in and out a bit fast asked me if iwas sure about the surgery said yes gave me a manual i now call my WLS Bible .rn When i returned talked about what would happen and what to expect was honest i really like that.rnwould of like to see Dr.Q a bit longer .rnA bit.rnYes.rnThe manual was wonderful i could call if i had any questions about the surgery.rn1 out of 10 i rate him and his team a 20..rnBoth with Dr.Quilici you also get Dr.Tovar and there others wow what a team .
I saw a few other surgeons that I thought were good. I chose Dr. Quilici because he seemed like the best choice for me. My boss also a doctor said that he was the guy to do it at. All my questions were answered, everyone in the office was nice. they guide you to the whole process and seem very honest. we will see how everything goes???
