Dr. Michael H.Wood of the CoriCenters did my gastric bypass surgery on June 24th, 2004. My first impression was immediate and affrimitive. I was so impressed by the fine caring physcian that was talking to the group at our intial consultation. He is a very fine surgeon and cares about his patients and it shows. He is all business when necessary but has a twinkle in his eye and appreciates a good sense of self and sense of humor. I feel I have been so blessed to have ended up with Dr. Wood as my surgeon. He is dedicated to the overall health of his patient. Dr. Wood lets you know that this surgery is but a tool in your success and that you are one who has control of the tools. He states and stresses that we are in this together for the rest of our lives. It is his commitment as well as yours. Having seen a few Doctors prior to my chosing Dr. Wood, I have to say that he is the best for me and I bet he could be the best for you also.

Waiting and biting my nails, in walks Dr. M.H.Wood. With this big welcome, hug you type of personality, which right away made me feel so comfortable, my hands went away from my mouth. He was super nice, and has a comedy style about him, easy on the jokes. He is real, he makes you believe you matter, and you are real....and what he does is close to his heart, making this surgery and life journey so real. He is a man who just looks at you, and you can say..."yes Doctor, cut me open and make me a loser!" He is willing to find the right way to take care of things, not just say..."well get use to it" He is so knowledgable that sometimes lil ole me couldn't understand some of the medical words....hopeinglsuoidll, like what is that? LOL But he welcomed you to ask questions and really took his time with us, it was nice...and he is wonderful, if i'm going to allow someone to cut me open and play with my insides....well it would be this man! Thanks Dr. Wood!

My first impression of Dr. Wood was he is a kindler, gentler type of man.I feel he has a lot of experience that is valuable but the hospital staff and office staff is not nearly as well trained or efficient as he is and this caused several problems for me such as seroma and a visit to ER.
Dr. Wood's office staff sems to "Duck and hide" they appear overworked and undertrained. They have not fulfilled the contract as promised as of yet. I talked twice to the office manager. he states they are "working on it".The office is definitely OVERBOOKED.I waited three hours for a post-op emergency!
The part I liked least about Dr Wood is I don't think he ask enough questions to realize his staff at the hospital and his office are not continuously fulfilling the Doctors orders. I believe DR Wood ASSUMES they are, but the fact is they are not.I was not to go home from the hospital until I was keeping down liquids. I never got a tray! Then I was discharged. There was a brakdown in my care at Harper Hospital after ONE DAY.
Future patients should know they need to be very medically saavy because it does take stamina to have this operation and carry out the diet regimen. The diet is in the patient handbook.I like the handbook.
Cori Center has a structered aftercare program in place on paper, but it is not functioning properly. The risks of surgery were printed in the patient handbook but not explained so I could recognize the symptoms. The risks were explained throughly.
Overall I would give DR Wood a 5 out of a 10.
Never Assume Anythng. Hire competent people and pay them enough to stay. A staff is only as strong as it's weakest LINK.I look at the big picture when it comes to competence and bedside manner. Being charming does not mean ssquat. "You can be the best you are at what you do but if you're not there when I need you...You're not _ _ _ t! Famous quote by Former Mayor Hubbard of Dearborn. Another good quote I recall is "There is nothing more frightening than IGNORANCE in action."Author unknown

I reserched Dr. Wood for many months before I decided to have the Sapala-Wood Micro pouch surgery. I read eveything I could get my hands. I could not find one thing negative about Dr. Wood, either personally or professionally. When I met him the fist time face to face, I came home and told my husband that I found my surgeon. It was that easy for me. All the important words describe Dr. Wood...Caring, kind, compassionate, sensative, professional, takes time with you, answers questions, he is the total package when it comes to a doctor! Every one of his people that I came into contact with treated me like I was a family member. You can't go wrong with Dr. Wood and CORI centers!!!!!!

Dr Wood is wonderful. I first met him 2 yrs ago when he was with Livelite. He has a nice sense of humor and smiles alot. I haven't had my surgery yet so I don't know how his bedside manner is but I hear it's great.

I first met Dr. Wood at a seminar he was presenting at. I was very impressed with his knowledge and his cofidence in WLS. My husband attend my consult with me and was was extrememly impressed with Dr. Wood (and it takes a lot for my husband to be impressed by a doctor). He has a very good attitude and is kind and caring. I am looking forward to my surgery date, because I know I am in good hands with Dr. Wood.

My first impression of Dr. Wood was that he really knew what he was doing. He seemed very careing and intellegent. Although very busy, I didn't get to spend much time with him, but I understand.
My impression never changed I still think the same about him.
Dr. Wood's office staff were some of the nicest caring people I've met at a doctors office in a long time.
Future patients should bring someone with you to consiltation because he goes over a lot of important stuff that you won't want to forget.
Dr. Wood is very big on staying away from Carbs & Starchs after sugery.
There is a nutritionist at his office available anytime for a structured aftercare diet.
Dr. Wood explained the risks of surgery but also said that he thought I'd do great because I'm young and relatively healthy, he was right because I'm doing great!
I didn't see Dr. Wood much after surgery, but when I did he was concerned about how I was feeling.
On a scale of 1-10 Dr. Wood definately was a solid 12!!! He's a great doctor!

MY FIRST IMPRESSION OF DR WOOD WAS THIS MAN KNOWS WHAT HE'S DOING. HE HAD A GREAT ATTITUDE ABOUT DOING THIS TYPE OF SURGERY AND ALSO WANT TO HELP OBESE PATIENTS. HIS OFFICE STAFF WAS REAL NICE. THEY ALSO WERE VERY AFFECTIONATE WHEN IT CAME TO ME MOVING AROUND IN THE OFFICE AND HAVING A HARD TIME GETTING ON A TABLE IN THE OFFICE. THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL. FOR FUTURE PATIENTS THIS DOCTOR IS THE WAY TO GO. HE IS VERY EXPERIENCED AND HAS A GOOD TRACK RECORD AND A VERY VERY LOW COMPLICATION RATE WITH ALL HIS PATIENTS. EVEN I WAS IMPRESSED. HE REALLY DOES STRESS HOW IMPORTANT AFTERCARE IS. ALSO HE STRESSES THAT WEIGHT SURGERY IS NOT A QUICK FIX, IT TAKES DETERMINATION AND DRIVE TO KEEP THE WEIGHT OFF ONCE YOU LOSE IT. HE SAYS WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY "IS ONLY A TOOL". SO FAR I RATE HIM A 10 OUT OF 10 !!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK DR WOOD!

Dr. Michael H. Wood. My first impression of him was that he was a great Dr. He has a nice personality, and was great at answering any question you might have had. Over time nothing changed for me really he still had a great disposition for a doctor. I loved his office and staff memebers ... always courtious and very willing to help you with anything. The thing I liked least was that he would not do the sugury lathro. on me because my BMI was over 40.
I think people should know that he does not like to fail ... he wins everything when he does the sugury. He stresses follow ups after sugury and you have to take shots for 6 days after sugury ... your buddy has to give them to you unless you feel you could do it yourself.
Overall I think Dr. Wood is the right doctor to go with. I like him and I think I can trust him in doing the best that he can pos. do to make me healthy.
I feel that surgical competence and bedside manner are both great qualitys with this doctor. If you are in the area of Warren I would recommend him.
